Hi All,

I am getting my 1.2 Lounge at the end of March (everything crossed!)

But was looking at insurnace quotes using various online quote engines, such as moneysupermarket and confused and gocompare etc.

I am getting back quotes of £300 odd pounds!!

I am 32, male, with clean driving licence and full no claims bonus for 12+ years. Car will be kept in garage and live in fairly decent postcode for inusrance purposes I think.

It seems like a really large amount.

Am I wrong?

What are you all paying or being quoted?

Thanks,

Wavey500:)

(other half insures our's) she's 31 female no ncb no point's car is keapt on the drive plus aditional driver (me) £248.04 per year with the AA (online).
my merc was insured with them and they were by far the cheapest for that aswell. we also got a home insureance quote they knocked off a tenner just for giving us a quote (y) which was £300 cheeper than what we were paying so we were very happy

£130.00.... however we do live in the sticks this is with directline. The cars a 1.2 sport. Just keep shopping around matey your bound to come up with something. It's also cheaper if you can stick your burd on the insurance.

Well I do intend to make my wife a named driver on it. Will that make it cheaper or does she have to be the first driver? (she already has her own car)

I guess it also makes a difference if you want a protected NCB policy and also how much voluntary excess you want.

I have been with directline and they are usually pretty good but they wont give me a quote until I have the number plate apparently! :bang:

:)

Yes that should make a difference. These comparison sites take a Commission for every policy they sell?

have you tried admiral?

Just make one up.

The quote will also depend upon how many miles you tell them you intend to do each year. Ours works out to about £190 inc protected NCB and legal cover - that's for 6000 miles p.a. (it will probably do a lot less) with Sheila's Wheels - in my wife's name with me as a named driver.

i will be doing approx 15,000 miles (maybe a few less) per year as using it to commute to work (also cant wait for the reduced petrol cost for a 1.2 vs the 2.0 litre turbo I drive at the moment).

Does the Mrs have to be the main named driver to get discount? I will be the main driver as she has her own wheels she uses to get too adn from work too.

Wavey, have you tried here.

500 Sport 1.2

42 yrs old, nearly 22 years driving experience, over 7 yrs NCB and protected, 8 to 9k miles annually, £221.

Legal expenses and IPT brought this up to £242.

Car is garaged every night.

I am with Esure.

Be careful adding your other half onto the policy as main driver, especially if you are in fact the main driver. It can invalidate the policy. I work in insurance and you will be amazed at what gets checked when you make a claim, if you are lying they WILL know!

LV are very competitive on all insurances right now but also worth checking with the direct insurers such as Tesco, Direct Line etc. Many of them are in fact the same company but they won't always quote the same price.

Comparison sites are often a good starting point but you have to remember that the cheapest is not always the best, it's when you test a policy after an accident that you find out how bad it is. For example, some insurers will INSIST you use their accident repair centre following damage rather than manufacturer approved site, and the results are often shocking. Bad paint, bad service, welding, the lot. How would you feel about leaving your lovely little car at what basically amounts to a chop shop?

40 Male
1.4 Lounge with added bits
22 yrs driving
9+ years NCB
Parked on drive
wife (also insured, but not as main driver) = 1 accident (3rd party blame) and 3 points (sp30).

£229 with Churchill

(LloydsTSB who I was previously with, originally said £340, same as my 1.6 Astra SXi, but said they'd drop it to £288 when I said the online quote was cheaper) Considering they are underwritten by Churchill I couldn't understand the extra cost, so told them it didn't matter.

some of these seem well ott!

38 Male.
Abarth 500.
5 years NCB.
Parked on road beside property.
Only proposer driving.

£235 fully comp with Privilege - inc Protected NCD and a maximum excess of £100 for any claim.
