Hi,

We're thinking of getting a 500, but we need to make sure that we can get our labrador dog into the back seat.

At the moment, we've got a little 5 door car, so she can jump straight onto the back seat, but as the 500 only has 3 doors, we're thinking she might have problems getting in.

Does anybody manage to get a medium size dog in the back of their 500?

We don't take her out in the car that often, so we don't mind a little inconvenience, as long as the dog can get in and out safely.

Having 2 lab sized pooches myself, I would say the dog, as long as not old and arthritic, could jump in ok with the seat tilted and slid full forward. However, my dogs are hardly even allowed to walk past my 500! Weve got the smelly old Pug 307 SW for that! Actually we like the ug as a load lugger but it dont half smell of dog :ROFLMAO:

You could always fold the back seats down and let the dog hop in and out of the hatch...

I haven't got a dog and my back seats always seem to be folded down.

I would agree that this is probably the easiest and safest way to get your dog in - dont want to hurt pups as the gap isnt that big once the chairs have been moved forward (y)

I don't think our dog would like going in a cage, which I think is what we'd have to do if we put her in the back with the seats down.

Nowadays, she uses a dog harness seatbelt thing, which attaches to the seatbelt in the back. I think we're going to have to use something similar still, which means that the back seats will have to be in normal position, for her to sit in.

Ive got two beagles and when they travel in my 500 one sits in the floor well, (She doesnt much like driving) and the other (Who loves out in the car) sits in the passenger seat clicked into the seatbelt.

I have a shih tzu(bit smaller than a lab)! I find it quite difficult to get her in my 500. i have to lift her in but she seems to want to splay all 4 legs so difficult to get past front seat back!!!!. She jumps out fine!!:D

From the comment above the seat tilt on these things are usless! You tilt the seat forward and then slide it, once you put the seat back to the up right position it wont slide back to were it was, so you have to reach down and pull the leaver EVERY TIME!

Easier to throw the dog in throgh the boot the parcel shelf is only 10mm wide :D

The driver's seat has a memory function so that if you release the catch and tilt the backrest forward you can slide the whole seat forward fully and as long as you don't put the back upright it will slide back to it's original position.

There are various debates at the moment as to whether passenger seats have the same function but the favourite is that it is a FOC option and it needs to be specified at time of ordering. I personally never saw that option listed when I bought mine but will bow to other members specialist knowledge in this matter.

Apart from that, as Puntostar states the tilt is not great and even when the seat is fully forward it is a tight squeeze.

I think it does say in the manual (you know, that thing that no one ever reads) that you put the back down first, then slide forward, and that to put it back up you reverse this procedure (slide backwards, tilt back up).

I asked my salesman about the no cost option on the passenger seat but I dont think he ever gave it any attention. Plus, I seem to recall reading somewhere that adding it to the passenger seat costs £50. I cant back this up with evidence, its possible I made it up.
