Its weird how people percieve Fiat, in the past few years its been my wifes cars that have had major issues.... a Mazda 626 dropped a valve, blew its power steering pump and generally fell to bits, her VW passat had stop/start technology before anyone else and her VW engined Skoda started blowing smoke and oiling up a plug, while all my Fiats carried on working fine:)

I'm a new member to this forum but felt I needed to post a message on the reliability of my Fiat 500! I got mines last July after hearing nothing but good reports, I love Fiats! My brother has always had a Fiat and I was desperate to get a new 500! I love my car but am saddened to say that it's currently in garage for 4th time in as many months! It has been in since Thursday because the handbrake failed twice and I couldn't get it into first or second gear when the weather was cold or it had been raining. Don't know when I am getting the car back now either because the garage don't know how to fix the gear box problem! I have friends with 500's and my sister bought one too and theirs are totally fine...I just wish mines was too! :(

I have two cars. An Opel Astra and a Fiat 500. The Astra is a 2005 and have only had one problem, a fault with the aircon.. It was fixed for free after the warranty was out(y)

The 500 is from oct 08 and has got flashing milage fixed once but it happend again the other day:mad: It has also got a hose to the windscreen washer jumped off:mad: When opening 4 brand new winter tyres(alu) all the centercaps where broken:mad: On the already mounted summer wheels 2 was broken:mad:.
When I got the car the main key was broken, so I had to use the spare key for a couple of weeks when the main key was replaced:mad:

When the car was two months old the windscreen broke because of wrong mounting on the factory:mad:( no stone chip etc...)Fixed on warranty(y)

Now the garage at the dealer is bankrupt(not the dealer. They are two separate companys):bang: So now there ain`t no more garage in my area:eek:

Well I know that this is minor problems after all, but it still annoys me like xxxx:(

My Dondolo is with me since 3 weeks and no problems at all. Once the milage was flashing. I stopped and "restarted" and since then no problem. I had a Golf IV for 10 years and never let me down except once when the engine was washed and the inmobiliser system went wrong. But that was fixed in a day from the factory. I hope that my 500 will be the same reliable car. :slayer:

open ur eyes look around the forum and you will see
a fair few have had the problem,
the uno turbo, was awfull 'IMO' end of
:slayer:

I had a mark1+mark2 uno turbo and a punto gt turbo all 3 were totally reliable ,i looked after them serviced them every 6k and imho were great cars ,one the mark1 uno turbo 1989 g is still on the fiat forum uno turbo section ,still going strong ,so i cant be wrong!!!(y)

But I do believe there was a period when Italian cars' rustproofing was non-existent, and the quality of the steel was questionable. A prematurely rusting body will certainly turn buyers against a car, me included.

History lesson.

Fiat sold the production lines for the 124 model to Lada in Russia. Fiat were paid in Russian steel as they had no lira. Russian steel was the cause of the problem.

Cheers

Thanks for the lesson. I did know this theory already though ;)
