I rang red dot racing today afer reading very complimintary things about them on this forum, i asked about remapping a 500 multijet diesel and they said "the ecu is too basic all you can do is add a piggy back box(tuning box) and it just adds a bit more fuel"

Surely this is a load of twoddle?

mine was remapped 5000miles ago and still works great
theres mappers and theres mappers :D jj electronics in wales top mapper(y)

they have done petrol ones off here

Indeed. They did my 1.4 and the difference is huge! Mmm 111bhp and 8% increase in torque. Yummy.

And as has been said, I'm sure they've done diesels before at FF rolling road days.

Do you know who you spoke to at red dot? Im sure they can map it as they can map the 1.3 Mjet out the grande.

not sure og the guys name, but he sounded foreign, maybe italian?

im still confused as to why he would say the ecu is too basic to be remappable? even a basic ecu is capable of being fiddled with no matter how hard they make it. current skyline is a good example, nissan made a big point of saying the new skyline cant be played with like the old one could, as they have written in software that prevents it. First car into a tuners hands and they get like another 50 brake out of it in a matter of days:ROFLMAO:

anyways i think im going to get nuovo to do it now, as they seem to be doing some good work.

What is a load of twoddle is when some tuners claim that you can get out 25+bhp from this ECU

What Augusto was telling is that the only changes that can be made on this ECU is the fueling and injector timing but the boost can't be altered independently. The boost pressure goes slightly up by altering the fueling, but not enough to reach figures in excess of 13bhp - the fueling alterations included.

Our competitors in Italy who spend a lot of time on this particular ECU were not able to get more than 13bhp of an improvement before excessive smoking.

If any other tuner wants to claim any other I personally invite them to proove it on any rolling road of theri choice. Otherwise I have to assume that they are trying to sel a bland lie.

now, this is very interesting....
Most of the tuners advertise a gain of 25 hp.

So........are they all lying?

Claiming is one thing, delivering and proving is quite another... I can personally vouch for the work Red Dot and the guys do.

when i spoke to the guy at red dot he said that the ecu cant be remapped as its too simple and it needs a piggy back box fitting.

spoke with nuovo today and they are telling me that it WILL make another 25hp and 40 ftlb torque.

sounds like a gauntlet being thrown down to me!!

any tuners willing to stand up and be counted?

well if you are being offered a (proven)gain you are happy with at a price you are happy with then go for it
