sorely tempted to chop the 500 in for a 500C though in time for the summer.

Same here Mark.

I'll have my finance paid by May so the temptation to order the 500C (in God knows what colour of the poor palette left!) is very strong indeed.

My partner thinks its far too girlie. Who cares!! GIRL POWER! (y):D

So whats the benefit of this? looking at the comparison chart it seems like it's the same as a Std 1.2 model. I assume Co2 goes down?

I would hope that by doing this they manage to get the car into the £0 tax bracket ?

I looked at thier web site and they dont make any marketing claims on £0 tax in fact i cant find any detailed information on it at all. The comparison chart gives the same 119 CO2 figure as the std 1.2 so I cant see why you would want to buy it when they dont claim any cost savings.

Start&Stop gives a published figure of 113 carbons compared to 119 carbons without it

only any point to this if you live and commute in a city, no benefit at all unless you are in a start stop traffic jam
Combined with the Dualogic it goes down to 110g CO2/km, which gives it an 'A'-label for economy (rather than 'B' for the manual) and makes it virtually tax-free here in Holland. Might be the same in the UK

In the UK the zero tax bracket is Up to 100g/km. Unless it lowers it to 100 it'll make no difference in the UK and only the marginal savings in fuel will temp people to stall at the lights :D.

113 would be a C and no better than the present one. So the diesel is still kind for congestion charge then.

edit: just check the Fiat uk site configurator and dualogic isn't listed as an option for the Start&Stop model...
Odd, in Holland the 1.2 Start&Stop is definitely available with the Dualogic (see attachment). Perhaps Fiat UK have decided not to import it because it apparently doesn't lead to a tax advantage as it does in some other countries.

This is what Fiat sent out to us two weeks ago. Should hopefully answer a few questions:

Fiat 500 Start&Stop - New Introduction

We are now happy to announce the new Fiat 500 Start&Stop.

Based on the most successful Fiat 500 version, the 1.2 Lounge, the new Fiat 500 Start&Stop will benefit of the latest Fiat technology combining Bosh and Fiat Power-Train know-how. The Start&Stop system allows an automatic stop of the engine (without any manual action on the key) whenever the traffic condition lead to a car’s stop, and restart the engine when the driver wants to proceed again.

Available at the price of £9,500, the Start&Stop is proposed as the “green” version of the elegant Fiat 500 1.2 Lounge. It will not feature the fixed glass roof as standard, however will combine POP interior, considered the most trendy and funky ones, and the latest technology.

The Start&Stop version represents the most ecological version on the Fiat 500 petrol range. With the Start & Stop system the CO2 emissions on the 1.2 engine rich 113 g/km and the fuel consumption will be reduced by up to 12% (on the urban figures which is the most common situation where the Fiat 500 is used).

The Fiat 500 Start&Stop fuel consumption figures are confirmed as:

Urban Cycle (mpg / l/100km): 49.6 / 5.7
Extra-Urban Cycle (mpg / l/100km): 65.7 / 4.3
Combined Cycle (mpg / l/100km): 58.9 / 4.8

CO2 (g/km): 113

Until further notice Dualogic will not be available on this car. We will keep you informed as soon as it will be introduced; this option will give further reductions in Fiat 500 Star&Stop CO2 emissions.

Through the Blue&Me, standard on Start&Stop, is also available the “Eco: Drive” system, that will allows customers further cuts on fuel emission and consumptions even.

Europe wide this version will be called “Pur-O2” to stress the environmental and green credentials of this car... however in the UK market we considered it more powerful to call this version... Fiat 500 Start&Stop.

The Fiat 500 Start&Stop will benefit of the same sales programme as the 1.2 Lounge, and the current Quarter 1 low APR PCP.

Ordering will be open from today...

Looks to me they are basing it on the Pop not because it is funky, but because it doesn't have A/C. Does Start&Stop have an A/C option, otherwise no-go, for me anyway?

The Ford Eco Fiesta has better performance, better emissions and economy (zero tax rate), is bigger, handles brilliantly, and has A/C.

C'mon Fiat, try harder...

The Start&Stop is based on the Lounge (as it clearly states in the second line of that release!) so has Air Conditioning as standard.

The differences between a 'normal' Lounge and the Start&Stop are thet the Start&Stop does not have the fixed glass roof as standard, comes with Pop upholstery, and comes with the 15" 9 U-Spoke Alloy Wheels as standard as opposed to the 15" Multispoke Alloys.
