Just wondering about the button you press with city on (lounge 500). I know its for the power assisted steering but should it only be used for parking etc?:D:confused:

Do you think perhaps it might damage something if you left it on? Also what do all of you use to clean the leather bits, ie, steering wheel. mine is the ivory one so is looking a bit dirty after nearly 3 weeks of owning her. :)

I noticed the ivory wheel gets grubby quite quick too despite OCD levels of hand washing! I can vouch for pound shop leather wipes too, got the grub off and didnt leave it shiny! also on the red leather door cards I have had water marks from the rain, however I can confirm that the leather wipes clean these off too! Ive also bought some autoglym leather cream, but I think you only need to apply this a couple of times a year tho.

Thanks for the tips on the wipes. i have now got some leather wipes from morrisons. they seem to do the trick too. I actually started cleaning the wheel while sat in the supermarket car park, got some strange looks from the car that parked next to me;) Quite easy to be obsessive isent it!! even started to wipe off the dirty rain splashes when I get home!!

I use Simoniz leather care cream to clean & condition the leather regularly & I have some Glypton conditioner to give it a really good conditioning a couple of times a year..

It lightens up the steering for parking etc... personally I have never actually used it! Steering plenty light enough anyway IMO! We've had it on several Fiats, my mrs calls it the girly button.

Fiat used to too. The old Punto adverts used to have blokes driving the car, but commenting on 'the girly button'.

I personally leave it on. It disengages automatically once you pass a certain speed (20kmh I think), and as I live in the city, I find it very useful, and I'd be constantly turning it on and off. So probably best for me to leave it on before I break it!

Where do you buy the cream and conditioner from. Is it a Fiat dealer?:D

The city button puts twice the amount of strain on the power steering though, wearing it out twice as fast! So I wouldnt drive around with it constantly on!

i used to drive a double decker bus converted into a mobile youth club several years ago, that had assisted steering of a sort, except that it was only light when you were going at speed... at parking speeds it was like trying to manoeuvre the albert hall. i once got it stuck in a village hall car park, couldnt manoeuve it out at all, a guy form the village who drove artics came out and had a go, he couldnt do it either! ended up taking out a fence post to get it out! Maybe thats why I never use the girly button! Our first car was an allegro estate, I bet that was heavy to steer too but funny I cant remember it being at all! Probably coz I had nothing to compare it to at the time!
