Now please go off and do whatever it is that mediocre engineers who don't read threads do....

Not sure who that's aimed at (for some reason I was quoted), but I'm an engineer (design) too, and a bloody good one.

5yr aircraft appreticeship, another 5 in airframe & turbofan design, 6years design in an F1 team......shall I go on????

Was aimed at RobW. Apologies if you thought I meant you because I definitely didn't.

I only quoted you because Rob for some reason seems to want to argue that this Stop Start system would wear the starter motor more than normal and you post and Nuova500's were merely quoted as evidence that the starter motor wasn't used to crank the engine when it got warm.

I can back that up, he is a nice bloke but like many on forums (me included) he can come across as a know all:) Its the nature of the net, Im sure we are all nice in the flesh, odd maybe but nice!

thanks for the postive comments guys

i think the lack of emoticons on this forum makes it difficult to express myself sometimes...i dont usually get into argument on other forums!

if i donate to i get emoticons or i am missing something?

Back to the original thread and the general negativity towards it, where the system really pays is for city drivers that face congestion charges, i.e. London.

I personally believe this was why the diesel was 'adjusted' from 111g/km to 110g/km since that was the (then) proposed threshold for congestion charge exemption. And obviously the petrol at 119g/km is nowhere near and must be loosing sales to others that are.

It's a huge saving potentially, £8/day ~£2k p.a. for daily travellers.

Of course it also benefits the environment in these driving conditions so a win-win really.

Cheers

OK, no offence taken.

RobW's OK though, met him a couple of times, he's a nice bloke.

Be that as it may he's not exactly attempting to endear himself to some people. We all make mistakes and it's how we deal with them which either endears us to people or makes them think we're a bit a of a twit. I can't remember the thread but I was having a discussion with someone about something and it went on for a while until they posted something which clearly showed that I was wrong and I immediately said "Oops I was wrong sorry about that I was wrong and sorry for going on like an idiot" and I think the other person actually appreciated that rather than me trying to squirm out of things or leaving the thread without saying anything.

Anyhoo back on topic it seems Bosch have taken the increased number of starts the starter motor will have to do into account and increased the service life of the starter motor anyway. Hot starts aren't that hard on the starter motor anyway and there will probably be more wear on the system from the cold starts the car does than all the starts the car does when hot.

RobW - As a newbie I never understood what it was between you and 306Maxi, at first I thought you knew each other and were just messing about. You know the saying "Fine line between love and hate".

Anyway, as others has reassured me you are a nice bloke, it would be awful of me not to help out. :)

To get the smiley's/emoticons, just hit the "go Advanced button" underneath the quick reply box when you are replying to a post. This should allow you to format your post a little rather than just text.

Also check the Forum options and ensure the display smileys or something similar is checked. This can be found in the User CP above.

Hope this helps!

306maxi - give the lad a break - he is finding difficulty showing his emoticons :D Now kiss and make up, you know you want to
;)

Rob, link to smilies here. If, when you make or reply to a post you don't see the little blighters in the box to the right of the message then you click on the Go Advanced button which will expand the message area. Click on any of them and it will appear where the cursor was last.
If you dont see the one you want then click on "more" to expand the selection.

The "disable" smilies is in miscellaneous options below where you are composing your message. make sure the box is unticked
