In this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-new/170023-100hp-brake-upgrade.html Madran is upgrading his Panda 100hp brakes with some Alfa calipers and brembo discs. Am I correct in assuming that this would also work on a 500? I've always felt the front of my baby could do with a bit more stopping power.

I know the 500 and the Panda are the same platform, but how interchangeable are the components? I'm assuming the suspension is as Madran is also talking about fitting the rear axle from an Abarth 500 to his Panda as well (integrated arb). Anyone else considered such a thing?

And yes, I know there would be serious warranty implications :)

cheers

how much is an axle from a 500 abarth? probably cheaper to just trade in against an abarth tbh that way it goes faster aswell and it has a warranty

Well, possibly, but that's outside the spirit of what he's up to I think. There's a bit of fun to be had modding your car :)

yes i understand the pleasure of diy and will be doing some mods to my own 500 but when going to these lengths why not start with something that will be faster and stop better in the 1st place

Each to their own. I can see the appeal of modding your car. There would be quite some satisfaction in building an Abarth beating beast. More so than simply opening the wallet and buying an Abarth if you're the tinkering type.

I'm pretty sure that my conversion works perfectly on 500!

will be deciding whether the brakes on my 500 need uprating soon, to be honest better pads and drilled/grooved discs off the Abarth essesse kit should be cost effective and make a lot of sense

drilled/grooved discs are lighter as well(y)

fitting larger discs increases unsprung mass and can make the steering reluctant to turn, having said that i have Alfa 156 2.4JTD calipers and discs to go on my Cinq Turbo - 'cos they will look awesome:cool:

This is something in massively interested in, I don't trust the brakes in my 500 at all at all! How painful would it be to replace the drums on a 1.3 with a set of discs at the back ?

pretty straightforward although the rear brakes only account for approx 20% of the stopping force, even less under heavy braking as the weight transfers to the front...

you would just need all the mounting plates and and calipers etc
i would not expect much change from 500quid using new fiat bits and you might be better off selling your diesel and swapping for a 1.4 16v:idea:

try pressing the middle pedal harder and if you still aren't happy look at some uprated front discs and pads(y)

A 1.4 would be an option if my 1.3 wasn't so special... I've got a remap on the shopping list, the odds will be mostly even after that :)

Rob's already said it all but if your brakes can lock up your wheels or engage the ABS on a dry bit of road then they're probably good enough.

Your rear brakes do very little of the work so if you want better brakes beef up the front brakes as they're the ones that do most of the work.
