Technical Stop/Start coming...

a colleague has a similar system and he found it annoying so he disabled it

I can't see that much point in stop/start technology personally.

It's going to be a battery killer.

I'd rather have the control to turn off the engine when I want to, not when it just fancies it.

Saying that, sitting with the engine idling for ten minutes apparently burns enough fuel for 0.6 miles worth of driving.

and the fumes kill baby chaffinches.

I wonder what the emissions are at start up ?

Its always been thought that start up is where all the damage to an engine happens - it why low mileage only in town used cars are not always valued higher than motorway miles cars.

That's true, but omly because the engine is cold on startup, in this case the engine will be warm.

on the mini they have this system an it will kill the car if you take your foot off the clutch in manual, UNLESS you have the air con on. I know someone who has it on his cooper and thinks its very good. I'd be a bit unsure about it at first but sounds like a good idea. Its like the auto hold on automatic cars, a good idea but wont appeal for everyone.
