I picked up my 6 month old multijet sport yesterday with only 1700 miles on the clock. When I collected it the low fuel light was on so I went straight to fill up. Within a mile the yellow engine warning light illuminated and the display indicated "check engine" A quick look in the manual advised to continue with caution to a dealer. The car performance seemed fine although there was quite a lot of white smoke from the exhaust that I put down to the car having been stood for a while. The smoke soon disappeared but the warning light stayed on. I started the car this morning to go local dealer and the light was still on. Stopped off at work to pick some things up then when I started car the light was off!!

I'm not sure what to do now? If I go to dealer the light is off so there is nothing to reset. Can they diagnose what the fault may have been from the on board datalog? Could it just have been a combination of 1. Low fuel leve and 2. Standing in cold for 2 or 3 weeks?

Thanks for any advice :)

You better take it to the dealer. the problem will still be logged in the internal ECU memory. I had a check engine light on my that was related to a RPM sensor fault, I took it to the dealer, and they still had to reset it even when the light went off.

Im assuming you have a warranty so what is the harm in going to the dealer. Especially as if there is a subsequent problem and you didnt do anything about the warning light when you could have nipped it in the bud.

The ECU will probably have stored some fault codes for the light to have come on so I suggest tell them about the light and make sure they hook the ecu up to the machine just in case.

It could be that the issue was cleared with driving but id not bank on it.

I'm having the same problem with my gp, except the amber engine light still lights up. Contacted my dealer and the soonest they can fit me in is next thurs, so will have to continue driving at no more than 60mph @ 2000 rpm 'til then :( I'm hoping it's nothing serious!
