Technical fiat 500 dualogic multiple failures

Hello ok i went to the dealer with my car sans working duallogic box and they checked it out. All the transmission oil leaked out by then. They checked the bottom of the car and found no source for the leak. They opened up the bonnet and told me the problem is from above and they have to replace a part of the dualogic box. Its under warranty so i am not paying anything. They said it would take like an hour to fix but no spare parts on them so i have to wait until it comes and they dont know when. I asked for a loan car they said they have none ( i mean the dealer doesnt even have one test car on the forecourt) they said they will check tomorrow. So train it is then. If they dont have a car tomorrow i may call fiat cs and find a dealer with a car to spare

Ahmett are you still sure you don't wanna give a try with the dealer i told you? Well, they may don't have the spare part available neither, but they ALWAYS have cars available. Of course, most of them are some messed puntos, but it's ok for a few days.

What did they give you when you had gotten a courtesy car? I dont care what it is as long as its not 1000 years old and will break down on me! If its a less than 3 years old punto i am fine with that! Lets see what they say tomorrow if not i may give your dealer a call but first to fiat Customer Services. Its not my fault my fiat broke while under warranty the dealer didnt even try blaming me for it!
Tsokas right? I can call them i think i have their number with me.

Well, while i was waiting for my 500, i was driving a 5 y old Stilo (it was in a very decent condition). Since then, i have visited the dealership twice (parking sensors and rattles) and i have been given a punto for free (5 y old and crappy). It was just for a few hours so i didnt care that much.

They should give me a test car you know the ones they get from fiat! (haha they probably sold them or gave them to their daughters or sons to drive around, i know some dealer owners sons that always drive teh test cars, selfish pigs!)

To be honest the dealer, Sarakakis, they didnt disagree with me needing a loan car and have been quite nice to me (i went with a reference from a friend mechanic who knew the service manager personally), they just said that they didnt have any! Useless!
Now lets see how long it takes to get the part, i dont want to hear any excuses it will take a week etc, i work in logistics so i am not buying that, with DHL it comes in one day and there is no customs rubbish in the EU!
We dont live in the 1950's anymore!

Ahmett - I am a little confused. Has the gearbox lost its oil or does it just need a part ?

Can you confirm if you are within the 2 year Fiat warranty or is your warranty in Greece just one year Fiat and then one year dealer ?

Garages used to have courtesy cars but the 'selfish few' abused the privilege and they're no longer commonplace. A hire car would be an option and should not cost not that much with a lot of garages having preferential rates. Your own insurance is used but you need to watch the excess (it can be up to €500). You can also take out seperate insurance. IIRC the AA (if you have it as part of your Fiat arrangement) give a car for 2 days if it is under warranty but it may only be for the first year.

All likely to be different in Greece.

Surely both? Leaks happen for a reason.

Noticed a few getting a part on the dualogic e.g. ECU part to control the gear changes but if oil has leaked that could indicate gearbox damage. That could take a lot longer than an hour to fix. Hence the confusion on the time scale.

Exactly. A part needs to be replaced and the faulty part caused all the oil to leak out of the gearbox. It has something to do with the duallogic box. They accesed the part from the bonnet not from the undertray which they checked and they found the part accessable from the undertray to be intact.

I dont think so because when all the oil went out the gearbox went into lockdown and refused to leave netural. It is electronically controlled after all so it refused to change gears and leave netural. I did 1 minute in first and it was incredibly jerky and after that it said ok only netural thats that.

Yes hi, the car is under 2 years fiat warranty and the dealer could care less about you so no dealer warranty. So i am within the 2 years fiat warranty as the car was delivered 1 september 2010. My insurance excess is 400 euros and thats supposedly the lowest possible excess (everyone crashes here a lot so teh insurance companies are broke) so i dont want to even call them. It should be something fiat deals with as this is not my fault the car broke under warranty. I will be speaking to the dealer in an hour so i know whats going on they are still waiting on when they will receive teh aprts from the fiat part database inventory thing they have on their compuuter.

If they still dont cooperate (teh dealer) i will be calling fiat CS. Actually i know someone that works in Fiat Greece itself so maybe they can help me more direclty, i will contact them if i am really lost.

What oil has actually leaked, the gearbox oil or the CS Speed fluid that controls the gear changes

Sounds like the CS Speed fluid from your description, the gearbox didn't go into lockdown it just simply couldn't change gear without it hydraulic fluid.

Worst that would have happened is damage to the pump, but even then they're normally fairly solid and if it sounds ok once repaired all should be good (y)

Just find out what part they're replacing and where the leak came from for reference (y)

Jon.

I will let you guys know. It was a lot of fluid like 1 liter? You know i was always concerned of the reliability of the duallogic box should have just gotten a manual. I am heading to the dealer now to get a courtesy car and an update of the situation.

Ok i went to the dealer and they told me they ordered the parts from italy. They told me it has something to do with the electronic system of the dualogic? I cant say for sure until i see a reciept with what has been changed. For now they gave me a 2009 orange fiat panda its drivable! They will know tomorrow when it will arrive from italy.
