Technical Dpf mpg

Technical Dpf mpg

Evening all, question for the diesel owners. My MPG drops horrifically periodically which I presume is the DPF regeneration (self cleaning).

Just wondering if there is any way to avoid it doing this (eg a good blast etc).

Cheers

Hi Pearce, apparently (unlike a petrol engine) a good blast is not the best method of cleaning the DPF.

Pip has done a pretty thorough explanation of this backed up with readings from the examiner and it is pretty conclusive that a fast run 65-70mph at a STEADY throttle opening is the best method.

The other downside to this DPF regeneration happening (apart from poorer mpg) is that the ECU will prompt you to have your oil changed much earlier than usual.

Mine's going in for this tomorrow at 3200 miles but I have been told on here and had that backed up today by Fiat CS that there are ECU updates for the DPF parameters that will hopefully stop this happening at such low mileage. I am hoping to get that sorted out as well.

Wow I'm at about the same mileage, it's going to quickly wipe out any fuel savings if I need a £60 oil change every three months! Knew I should have got the Panda 100hp...

Make that £97.80 for oil and filter.

But I also got the DET to update the ECU software and I have been told that when any new updates become available they will contact me.
