Technical Upgrading The Standard HiFi / Stereo

Hi,

Sorry I know this is an old thread, but just a quick query, how would I get my radio out (see pictures in post #20) without getting that wire thing? I have managed to take the four little blank buttons out but can't seem to see where to go from there.

Thanks in advance!

Sally

I hope they are just standard connectors, I am fitting my JVC AVX1 with steering wheel controls (and add-on wiring patch lead) to my car, as soon as I get it home from the dealers next week. Only going to have the standard unit in on drive home from the dealership. Also got my DAB JVC add-on to plug into it. Can't live without DAB now.

removing main 'coloured' dash trim for repair,

do i really need to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery?

...and if I do, how long can that battery be disconnected without affecting codes etc.

please help, have to do this tomorrow morning

sorry to push this thread in another direction but if I upgrade the HU will I lose the blue&me connectivity? (or do I get it back by getting a stereo that supports bluetooth) and what about the controls on the steering wheel?

Hi, I'm new to this forum. I joined in order to be able to click the link in post #20 above. I am now obviously registered and logged in, but when I click the link, it asks me to log in again. When I do that, it says "Login Error: Invalid Login". I know I am using the correct email and password, but even when I click "Forgotten password" and submit my email address again, it then tells me "Valid email address not found". This makes no sense to me, so I'm hoping someone can explain what I am doing wrong and how I can get through to this link?
Thanks in anticipation.

Hello and welcome to the forum .

That was a very old link to an external website. The second login request is nothing to do with Fiatforum - I suspect the page is no longer accessible.

I've removed the link so that noone else is confused by this.

Once you've popped out those plastic clips, the usual DIN radio keys should be all you need.

If you have a look on youtube you'll find lots of clips on how to remove a car stereo, some just using a few small screwdrivers in place of the DIN keys.

Now that you've joined, please hang around - there's loads of useful stuff here (y).

Ah! Silly me. That makes perfect sense now. Thanks very much for explaining that.

Maybe someone can help me a little more...

My 18 year old daughter has a 59 plate Fiat 500 Lounge 1.2 ltr. This older model does not have an AUX socket or Bluetooth. It does have some connections for use with a Windows phone, but she has an iPhone 6. She wants me to fit something that will allow her simply to play music from her iPhone via the car stereo. Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction so I can find out exactly what I need to buy and how to fit it. Obviously Bluetooth would be ideal, but if that is too expensive, then just a 3.5mm jack AUX socket would do the job. I'm not very savvy with removing and fiddling with car radios, but with the right instructions I'm sure I can sort it.

Any advice/suggestions/links would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much, that's just made my day, and my daughters :)

I reckon I might just be capable of fitting one of those :)

It will have bluetooth, so can connect to the iPhone for calls (y)
Thanks for your interest.
I believe you are correct that it has bluetooth, as I now remember that when she first got the car we had several unsuccessful attempts to pair her old iPhone 5. A friend, who is very savvy with these things tried to pair the phone with the car, and eventually concluded that it could not be done since the phone was not a Windows phone.

Perhaps you could elaborate on your post. My daughter is not wanting to make calls whilst driving, just play music via the car stereo system. Is this possible without extra gadgetry?

It has nothing to do with needing to be a windows phone, it just wasn't being done correctly by the sounds of it, I know the iPhone 4 and 6 connect without issue (y)

The system is just a collaboration with windows, that is all :)

Yes if she's happy using a USB flash drive, just load it with MP3 songs, plug it in and away she goes (y)

In a word, no.

You can indeed play .mp3 files from a USB stick without buying anything. But if you want to play music directly off an iPhone, you'll need to obtain the adapter I linked to previously.

As folks are now trading in 500's of that vintage on a fairly regular basis, the adapters do turn up frequently on eBay.

AIUI the adapter is not needed for Blue&Me equipped 500's built after mid-2010 - full details in the link.
