Hi I'm considering a 500 after owning a Panda for a while, i think the 500 has all the ingredients of a good car (like the Panda) but differs in the looks department, and by that, i mean WOW, it's stunning. As petrol has become almost cheap again (97.9 in Shell today) i was considering the 1.2 Lounge. As it is already well equipped, i would not wish for many more extras, maybe the 16" wheels as oppose to the 15" but what would i expect to pay for a standard lounge in bossa nova white?

The best price i can find is little over 9500 but surely with the credit crunch, there must be some deals going? Also any extras worth going for?
Feedback appreciated, if i can't find a good deal, I'll buy a Panda Cross!

Have u tried the fiat 500 configurator ont the fiat website? its very good for speccing your 500 and seeing what the price of the various options is. I ordered a lounge recently and took the print out of what i wanted to the dealer with me. They have been told that they cant discount the 500 by fiat but you can get extras for free ( I got a set of mats and tank of petrol) but i think others have got some of the extras reduced (price of alloys for example). Think the basic price of the 500 is £9500 but with the extras I wanted mine came to £10260.

As above. try the configurator, i paid the same for my 500 as the price it showed on the configurator. When we tried to get the dealer to lower the price a little, there was no way he would budge. He said that they were unalble to knock any money off the 500 as they were selling so well, however he did chuck in a couple of freebies for us ;)
I paid £10500 for my 1.2 sport with bigger alloys, full leather, the side rubbing strips, full tank of petrol, Mats & for my private plate to be transfered over.
Good luck (y)

If there are discounts to be had on a new 500 (and who am I to say if there are? ;) ) then a Bossa Nova White 1.2 Lounge is the wrong car to be looking at.

1 in 3 500s sold (in the UK, not sure about worldwide) is Bossa Nova, and the 1.2 Lounge is by far the biggest selling model. Add those two together and you're trying to get a deal on the one car that Fiat dealerships find easiest to sell.

Perhaps if you were looking at a 1.4 16v in a less popular colour with loads of extras you'd find a dealership willing to bend over backwards to shift a stock unit, but not the car you want.

Cheers for the replies. I might wait till next near, as the 500 is still a fresh model and considered exclusive, i guess it's not going to be discounted for a while. Just seems unfair that all the other Fiats, Panda, Bravo, Punto etc all have up to £3000 off the list price. On the other hand, why are Fiat going to knock 3k off if it's a seller anyway? Still a tempting little car though!;)

Just go for it!!!!! if you like your panda as much as I did then you'll soooo love the 500 irrespective of the engine, model, spec, colour, cost, size of the alloys etc. The first time you sit behind the shiney dash it'll be with it! You could always shop around a few dealers and hunt down a pre-reg 08/58 or a low mileage demo car and haggle for a deal shouldn't be that hard if your not set on a too familiar white lounge!!

The advice about sellign a less saught after model only applies to showroom or dealer stock I believe.

Fiat have told dealers not to discoun the 500 or they will no longer be supplied them.
However, my trade in was fantastic and other things were easy to sort as well.
If you think that your cost to change ios the important price then they can do that with the right haggle but the official price is the one that Fiat give them.

What gave it away? Was it this line...

...possibly? :p

The "cheap" petrol is just a temporary blip, OPEC are doing all they can to put it right again.

You see it just shows how insidious these oil companies are, we are all now accepting that paying just under a pound a litre for fuel is actually cheap, when its still outrageous.

Whilst on hols in Northumberland recently, a remote service station had a big sign outside outlining the how what we pay for fuel is apportioned...

On £40 worth of fuel:

£28 to the government on duty/ VAT

£10 to the oil company

£2 to the forecourt vendor.

think this is accurate, Im sure someone will correct me if Ive got it slightly wrong but its definitely in the spirit of what it said!

I can remember when I started driving it was about 30p a litre, but then I also remember when walkers did a snack called snaps that were 2p a bag.

To be honest if the capped it at £1 per litre for the next 5 years I would be happy and I wouldn't feel so bad about their new ridiculous VED tax system.

just makes me feel like we are a nation of numpties when the rising cost of fuel is laid at the doors of the suppliers when the government is sniggering in the corner blithely skimming off around 70% of the price we pay.

They should just bring back the window tax and have done with it.

bear in mind that the residuals on the 500 are much stronger than the panda, so even without any discount it will likely be a cheaper car to own overall. Should be on-par with the early (BMW) mini's and the Fabia VRS.

Yep - you're prety much spot on. I'm in the oil busines on the distribution side and we are in the hands of OPEC and the big names in refining. Our margins on commercial and domestic fuel are absolutely minute compared with any other business I know of. We only survive by selling volume. Unfortunately as we are the only 'face' the customer sees or speaks to, we take the brunt of the criticism

As regards to the price of petrol, here's two extremes for you:
Sierra Leone in Africa £2.50 a litre
Venezuela in south America 2.5p a litre!
That's 100 times and the distance between this two places in what, 3000 miles!?

I think our fuel is quite cheap compared to some things but the fact of the matter is cars drink a lot of it. By that i mean if we were travelling 55 miles on foot, we wouldn't need to drink a gallon of beer, and beer is expensive.
Get my drift?...

I wonder what proportion of the £2.50 a litre the government takes there tho? This is what I feel is unfair. We are expected to fall to our knees and thank the govt that they didnt increase the duty by .5p in October, tho I think it was only postponed, and this was only for political reasons because the govt is so unpopular (IMO).

How far are we off topic? Luckily the 500s seem to be quite economical so thatll offset the cost of buying one I guess. There we are back on topic! (ish) :ROFLMAO:

I didn't get any discounts and my car cost £11,250. However I haggled a great part-ex deal and the car arrived earlier than promised.

If you want a 500 I think you are going to have to pay the list price for now, unless you buy an ex-demo.

Going back of topic, don't forget every time the cost of fuel goes up the government creams the VAT on it, so an increase of 10p a litre and the government take an extra 1.75p VAT,so their delay of the 0.5p was not quite so generous.

Good point well made! Tho I never thought the delay of duty was at all generous anyway! At least we can have this discussion in this country however without fear of disappearing in the middle of the night

Back on topic, if you seriously like the Panda then I would say go for the Panda Cross from Fiat SupaSaver, that is a stonking deal in anyones book. As for going for a non popular colour in a 1.4... well thats what Ive got!!! I guess when its trade in time a dealer will offer way below list price because of my cool colour and proper engine:)
