Well guys, today has been my first full day driving the beautiful 500, sitting mainly in traffic and enjoying the glances and stares of the other drivers around me :D

I have played with every piece of equipment, realising that I do have the seatbelt buzzer enabled, which I originally thought had been disabled by the dealer, that three jets of washer fluid for the back window is amazingly powerful, that it has auto-activation of the rear wiper when reversing (which I have always liked alot on my previous cars), that the fragrance dispenser was a VERY good buy indeed and that every single thing within the car has made me smile like a simpleton!

In all this is a truly lovely car which is exceptionally well screwed together, and, (unlike some) I have managed 44mpg in my first 100 miles, which I think is good for a new engine and sitting mostly in traffic :D

Roll on the daily commute (y)

glad u enjoying your 500, cant wait for my first full day! How are u finding the 1.2 engine? Just been reading other peoples views of the 3 engines on another post, some saying the 1.4 is more fun? Intend to get the 1.2 myself!

Hi there.

I personally find the 1.2 perfect for the driving I do, which is a mix of rural and urban driving. There are lots of hills where live, so the little 500 has to show its worth - and it does.
The 1.2 likes the revs and most of the torque is low down, which is ideal. Because I've only covered 100 miles I'm still taking it steady, so when I've reached 1000 or thereabouts I'll start to use the revs alot more. Then I'm sure the fun will begin.

I also think 44mpg for its first 100 miles is great. My last car (which was also new) was a smart ForTwo and that averaged only 36mpg for the first 400 miles or so.

If you're also a secret mechanic the sheer simplicity of a 4 cylinder, 8v, non-hydraulic tappet engine is just excellent. I personally think engines are sometimes too advanced for their own good and the simple often works the best.

Still, I'd drive the 1.4 and possibly the 1.3MJet just for perspective.

Thanks for your thoughts, Ill def go and try all 3 then if poss, tho i have a feeling Id rather have the 1.2 and spend the premium added to the cost by the other 2 engines on more bells and whistles in the equipment/styling department! As mine would be a second car I think Id be doing mostly town/rural driving with only occasional motorways, similar to yourself.

I found my 500 (1.4) incredibly tight to start with but after a bit of mileage has loosened up a treat !
