Been playing with the configurator on the fiat site for my new 500. What I've decided on is based on a 1.2 Pop...

1.2 Pop
Bossa nova white
Red cloth/ ivory ambiance
15" multispoke alloys
Side rubbing strip with 500 logo
Italian flag stripe with 500 on roof
smoking kit (not that I smoke but i need the power socket!)

Decided against blue and me as i got a bluetooth headset, dont use an mp3 player much and my new phone is a nokia which wont work with the text message reading facility. Am i right in thinking the stereo is the same apart from that? Only thing I may be tempted to add is air con.

Cost of above is coming out at £8630, which is £1060 less than a lounge with similar additions, tho I know the lounge has higer level of standard kit.

Also any compelling arguments to convince the boss (ie Mrs) why i should get the lounge one will be gratefully recieved!!

Any opinions on the above would be read with interest!

:):)

I personally would go for the equivalent sport or lounge. You can up spec the pop all you want but when trade in time comes along it will still be a pop and you wont get much if anything for the extras you have added.
Where as the lounge and sport with higher specs will be worth more of what you originally shelled out.

Get the Lounge - if i'm right and the glass roof comes as standard on it. WE have a funk white with red/white interior and with the glass roof it is so light and airy .... drove a black pop for a couple of days this week and found it very dark without the glass roof.

That's my tuppenceworth anyway! LOL

By the way, the POP comes with a 12v power socket so you wont need the smoking kit.
The kit is a lighter and ashtray.
Hope this helps.

Tony.

The glass roof on the Lounge is enough reason in itself to go for that model. It looks good and makes the car so much lighter inside, particularly if you opt for one of the lighter coloured interiors. It's like a cabriolet without the draft and bird poo!! :D

So glad I went for the lounge, I did what you have done , priced up a pop with a few extra;s but in the end what you get with the lounge just makes more sense, and as someone else said, when you come to sell it, people only see what model it is,not all the extras that are 'added'

Go to a dealer and see the difference in the flesh if you can.....made my mind up and lovvvvvvvvvvvvvve my 500!!!!!:)

Definitely upgrade to the Lounge, not only do you get all of the features listed there (apart from the side strips and vinyls) but you also get aircon and that brilliant glass roof, aswell as Blue & Me which although you don't need it, is still a nice thing to have. The seats are also of a better quality, and you get a leather steering wheel which looks brilliant in Ivory.

I'm so glad I upgraded to the Lounge having driven a Pop without the glass roof.

Here's what mine looks like with black/grey cloth, Ivory Ambience and the glass roof;

Thanks to all who replied! Seems general concensus is that the lounge is a much better bet! Was good to see the pics of the interior with the fixed glass roof showing... it does look fab. Have one if these on our peugeot and it does make the cabin massively lighter!

didnt realise the pop came with a power socket, as it isnt mentioned in the spec on the configurator! thats all i wanted it for... Makes my upspecced pop £40 cheaper! Sure I would have realised once I got into the dealers tho and sat in a few. Will go and look at dealership at differences between the 2, but i guess ill go out for the Lounge. course I want all the extras the lounge has but I was trying to consider the wallet! Only thing with the pop is that I liked to 2 tone ivory/red seats, which you dont get on the lounge unless you order red leather. anyone have the standard blue ones in the lounge? would like to introduce a bit of colour but the blue on the web looks a bit insipid.

No, not the general consensus at all. I have to fight the POP corners here - feel very out numbered.
I personally went for the Pop because I prefer the interior trims. The blue and red with ivory ambience just 'feel' more inkeeping with the original theme. I personally love the lounge but I would've still had to buy the chrome mirrors I wanted, plus I've had the 16" alloys, which albeit cheaper as an option of the Lounge it would've still bumped up the price, and (this is purely personal preference here) I drove a smart ForTwo with the glass roof and I found it too annoying, continually having to dodge the sun by pulling the blind across. It made me never want a glass roofed car again.

Everyone on here is absolutely right about each and every reason they've told you to buy a Lounge, but its up to you at the end of the day.

It was just the blue and ivory ambience that clinched it for me - outstandingly gorgeous - and every picture I have shown people of my interior (that I hope to get this week) has made them weak at the knees :D

Have fun building your car and just to help you decide a bit better - log onto the Irish 500 site. All the options you choose are added to your car in front of your very eyes!

Not everyone is saying get a lounge.
I only pointed out the money he would loose come trade-in time (which comes to everyone at some point) if he specs up a Pop.
I personally didn't like the glass roof as having had one before on another car I found they made the interior too hot (on the few sunny days we get).
Thats why I went for a sport.

(y)Completely agree with the roof comment. Seems like a fantastic idea at the time, almost a cabrio without the roof and rain to worry about, and at motorshows and in the showroom its a real big selling point. In reality just annoying and, like you say, too hot!

Ooh no, I'm a glass roof person all the way- was lovely today out in the sun with the blind pulled so letting the light trickle in ... it makes my car feel so light and airy. I loved having the glass roof on my smart car and really missed it in the other two cars I had since.

I knew someone would say this.
The roof is something you either like or dislike simple as that.
I am not against anyone who went for the glass option (their choice) but it wasn't for me.

That's why you put the aircon on :p
I had a friend over today and her car is a Pop, albeit with tints, different alloys and Italian stripes, here's how the fronts look when next to each other if you want a quick comparison;

I wasn't meaning that anyone who chose Pop was wrong - just that as soon as I could order a car with a glass roof again I was determined to do it. It's definitely personal preference issue.

OK then opinion is divided! I still havent decided yet but i dont know if id rather have the extra grand in my pocket and still have basically the same car. No matter what trade in I get at the end I will be disappointed with it anyway as my fiats have always been worth more to me than a dealer! Got £500 for my cinquecento when i got the stilo, loved that little car, and we always feel like we sold it short! I wish i had sold it for that to someone who might love it! I like the big glass roof we got in our peugeot but my wife nearly always has the blind across it as she finds the glare annoying, even tho the glass is very dark. If the electric glass roof was standard on the lounge I might be more swayed that way.
