My side rubbing strips are at the painters and I see they are attached to the car using double sided body tape and nothing more. The bodyshop suggested to save hassle I fit them myself, as they would need my car all day... has anyone done this, is it easy to line them up etc?

I've not fitted the pucca fiat ones but i have the black rubber ones from Poland.

I found best way was to run a length of masking tape along (below) the crease in the door - it took several attempts to get it straight (but better to screw up with masking tape rather than ruin the strips). Using this as a guide-I fitted inch by inch lining up with the top of the masking tape as i went. The rubber ones are quite flexible so it was easier to pull off the whole backing strip in one go and keep them flexed away from the door as i went along

Also found it was easier to do in bright sun light as the crease in the door showed up better.

swab down the area with alcohol first :yum:

Hope this helps

Barry, when I used to fit them a long time ago the first thing i did was to put little dabs of Blu Tac on the backing and press fit them to the car. Then stand back and make sure they are level as it is hard to judge when you are up close.

When you are happy run a strip of masking tape along the bottom edge of the strip and that will maintain your line for the fitting.
If the weather is warm you are OK but if cool use a hairdryer to warm the panels and also on the mouldings. It makes them a lot mor flexible and also makes the adhesive more effective.

Good luck. :)

Cheers for that, does the bottom of the strip follow the crease in the door exactly? And, roughly how far above the crease does it sit.... Im hoping it will only really fit in one place! Also, guessing they all might be a bit different as Im sure they come to the dealers unfitted, ex factory. I say that because Ive seen a dealer fitting them to a brand new car a couple of times.

yes no problem in the box it gives the measurement i think its 240mm? mark it with masking tape and lined it through clean off area priory to fitting and stick them on 15 min a side tops (y)
forgot just make sure the longer one sticks right th way up to the edge of door to aline the smaller one to give it a nice joint finish

I didnt get a box, they were all in bubble wrap and taped up... so its 240mm from the deck then? Ta!

wait till wifey gets home and i measure them, there is a mark on the car for the jacking point you take from there upwards (y)

the front from the top of the jacking point is 185mm and the back is 205 mm to fit
