Hi,
I have on order a bossa nova white 1.2 lounge hopefully arriving first week in october! Very excited!

I was wondering if anyone had bothered having the alarm fitted through fiat?
Dealer told me it would be around £250 which I think is quite pricey, but I wanted the alarm integrating into the original fiat fobs. I was told lots of people haven't bothered with the alarm as the car has an immobiliser etc, but Ive always had an alarm on my current car. Any ideas?

Amey :)

Well ive added the option it to mine when it arrives late sept/early oct ,i too have always had one (y).It will be intergrated to the original key fob i was told!!:)

i am going to gemini (an italian alarm company) on the 9 of sept to see them about a custom 500 spec'ed alarm
they already do one for fiat ducato ( mainly for the motor home industry)
they make there alarms not sub the job out to a chinese company so i rate the quality and they have there own company in england not just an agent that will not do any thing for you
let you know as soon as this is done

The alarm's fitted price is on promo @ £299 and i would say its not that pricey when compared to the likes of clifford, toad etc etc, and with those units you would have to have a second fob etc. this way its all in house and under your warranty! and still a thatcham cat 1 for cheaper insurance premiums.

I will admit, since the launch of the 500 i have only fitted one, and considering fitting one to mine. but on the whole most people have not bothered... i guess it all goes down to personal choice.

I forgot to see if had one as standard and then realised afterwards it didn't. I don't think they are much of a deterrent as no-one looks when a car alarm goes off and it does have an immobiliser.

On a nostalgic note - I had an immobiliser fitted to my F reg panda and it was switch underneath the cloth dashboard that you have to flick to turn on/off. The amount of times i forgot and turned the key and 'nothing'!

One advantage (and possibly a big one?) is that as its Fiat approved then there wont be any warranty issues, if a aftermarket alarm is fitted and the car has a problem within the warranty period it could be a issue if the cause is traced to the alarm in which case the owner can be responsible for diagnostic time aswell.

i think i'm right in saying the alarm is not factory fitted its actually fitted by you'r dealer not that that's so bad but they dont always care where they drill.
aftermarket will cost more but the benefit of an aftermarket is other than being better in general its all the extra's you can get. total closure( closes windows/sunroof when alarm is activated) remote start (daft idea) or text message to a mobile when you'r alarm goes off, panic buttons, follow me home lamps (act: on lock or unlock) the list goes on, i will however check with fiat u,k about the warranty

Its all soldered wiring, no connectors allowed. The kit comes with connectors which dealers are told to discard.

if no drilling required where doe's the flashing light go? does it have ultrasonic? does it just work on voltage drop?
according to the fiat configurator if you buy the alarm before sept 30th for £139.83 inc vat (cheaper than i thought) you get a remote controlled 500 for free :) i might go n get one if it's plug n play and fit it myself, having read the links regarding the alarm am i right in saying if i fit it myself using the supplied connectors it is NOT thatcham approved, if the dealer fit's it by cutting and soldering then it IS approved and should come with a certificate
