Here in Italy you have to have the lights on.

Also flashing the lights means 'i am here and not stopping' this gesture can be used at small junctions where you are just a bit too far out usually to see around a badly planned sign right upto 200kph overtaking manoevures.

in the UK its intended to be used to warn other drivers that you are there however its become common practice (although Illegal) to show other drivers that you are giving them right of way so totally opposite to most of Europe

I've had a few people flash me with me having my DRL's on, thing is because of them flashing me I nearly had an accident wondering what they were flashing to me about. Like whats been said, some people are just thick.

Its most likely that people think you are driving around with foglights on which of course is a crime that should be punishable by a slow lingering death.

It doesn't help when they are flashing you when going 60-70mph on a busy motorway, numpties

My neighbour told me I had my 'fog lights on'....I had to then explain what those lights at the bottom were

i'm waiting for the highway robbers (police) to have a problem with the fact that the front lights are on but not the rear's.

It does seem strange that all the more common vehicles, Volvo, Saab etc. that use DRLs make the decision to have you visible from the front and rear but Fiat think that you only need to be seen from the front.

 Does anyone else know of a car manufacturer that only has front DRLs?

Audi

The further problem is, that as it gets dark some 500 drivers don't put their lights on because they think the drls also switch the back ones on.

Just comes down to ignorance. But I assume the headlights have to be switched on for the dash lights to come on, and are the lights in the 500 not Auto lights
