I've done 7100 miles since I bought the car 6 months ago. Divide that
by 40mpg average consumption to tell us I've put 177.5 gallons in the
car since I bought it.

177.5 gallons x 4.5 litres to a gallon = 798.75 litres.

So 798.75 litres of petrol x an average of £1.23 = £982.46 since I've
had the car.

So in six months I've spent £982.46 on fuel.

That's quite cheap really.

Far cheaper before the price rises... still good that your happy, plus the value of driving a nifty little shifter... Pricelss!

Even cheaper to run in Australia :) our fuel is half the price of yours (y)

cjay,

Interesting you say that. The calculations were actually as a result of a conversation I was having with my father in Sydney. When you view the figures in AUD its bit more frightening. My fuel bill for 6 months is actually $2,094.13AUD at todays rates.

Yep, you should all ship your 500's down here and move down under (y) the weather is much better as well :D

and lots of life threatening creatures in you'r house

Meh. Snakes and so on don't generally come into your house. If you live in the Eastern States you might get funnel web spiders in your house. But where I lived (Perth) you don't really get many nasties :)

Droughts... not so bad here, I can legally wash the 500 here now(y)

Funny how poms are always afraid of our critters, no one here cares. It's very rare you see anything that will do you in.

Back to the topic... It would still be at least £1,000 cheaper a year to drive here :) maybe a little less if you had to avoid the ex wife ;)

Whatever the fuel prices are it's hard to beat a 500 (y)

Believe me there's more danger from the chavs here than there is from the critters back in Perth ;)

You forgot to mention that in Australia a poverty spec 1.2 Pop costs AU$22,990 yet it costs AU$17,000 over here. So the price of petrol is somewhat offset by the huuuuuge difference in purchase price ;)

Yep! True, cars are a rip off here.

My 1.4 sport was $31,000AU! And thats $10,000 cheaper than a crap MINI Cooper!

I guess it costs a bit to ship them to the end of the earth but the main reason is the tax on cars here. My Elise was $97,500 new!!! It even cops a luxury car tax ba ha ha (n)

Do all 500 models have the mpg display on the dash? (sorry if it has been covered)

Yes, just press the button on the end of the stalk on the right hand side to scroll through functions.

In the menu, you can pick either mpg or litre/100 km, miles or kilometres amongst other functions such as selection of daylight running lights on or off, automatic locking at a certain speed etc.

Ahh the luxury car tax. I remember that. Penalise people for wanting something other than the local product.

If you were interested in a 500 on the cheap you could buy it an register it in UK and leave it here for a year then ship it to Aus, skipping the import duties. But then any gain made would be wiped out by insuring it for a year in the UK with zero no claims bonus. My 500 lounge 1.4 is 580 quid a year for the first year because I'm male and don't have a no claims history.

Ouch.

Sorry to hear that but with full no claims we're paying £200 for our 1.4 Sport.
You just need to drive like a vicar for the next 5 years and hey presto.

They are getting a bit strict on that now, you have to live in the UK for a year before you can ship it down. The whether is way to horrible for that ;)
