Hi guys I am a student in UK but I am from INDIA, I love small expensive cars and I really like the Mini Cooper (unfortunately it's not launched in INDIA) but one day I came across the 500 and oh my God I was amazed to see this lovely car, I did a bit of research and then went and saw the car at the Marylebone Fiat showroom and I was in heaven:rolleyes:. Then finally it was launched in INDIA on the 18th of July and I was at the exclusive Fiat showroom to place my order, now the interesting or shocking thing is that they are offering only the 1.3 MJ in lounge and sports costing around 19000 pounds !! The reason being the INDIAN government charges around 102 % custom duty on CBU (Complete Built Unit) vehicles:mad:. But I love the car man so I am buying it. The best part nobody's gonna buy it, at least in my city so I will be the only one .

So I have ordere the sports in the red colour, I wanted the leather seats but the car was itself costing too much but the standerd sports interior looks good.

SORRY FOR THE LONG POST !! LOL I AM SUPER EXCITED !! MAN I LOVE THE 500:)

Welcome here and enjoy your stay, thats not a long Post believe me

Nice to have the exclusivity in your city I bet, nice little posing car a red 500, expensive yes but only because of taxes aimed at forcing people to buy locally built cars maybe (Tata etc?)

This is a fine Forum, enjoy! (y)

Yes Ffoxy you are right the govt. wants the people to buy the locally produced cars (All major players including Fiat produce locally, of course not the 500 LOL !!) and Fiat is selling all it's cars via Tata's showrooms !! The showrooms really sucks :bang: But the one with the 500 was ok they had renovated it for the 500 !!

Hi Omar and welcome. There are lots of nice people on this forum, who are very helpful, informative and supportive and who share your enthusiasm for the 500. Is diesel more expensive than petrol in India too? Do you know if there are any plans for Fiat to bring over the petrol versions to India in the future?

Hi Littala thanks for welcoming me to the wonderful world of the 500 :). The current petrol price is around 70 pence and the diesel price is around 45 pence here in INDIA, you might think that they are cheap in comparison to UK prices but they are a lot for us Indians as we are still a developing country and the basic wages are lower than that of UK.

As regarding the petrol version of the 500, no they will not launch it here, the reason being that the car is already costing around 19000 pounds and basically they don't want to sell the car in INDIA, it is only a brand building exercise. There aim is to sell around 100 cars per year and even if 10 cars are sold they are fine with it. Fiat is not that popular in INDIA, as everywhere because of its poor performance in the past !!

The launch of the 500 is just a marketing start for their locally produced cars, the first being the Fiat Linea which is expected in September and which will be produced locally and then it will be followed by another import that is the Fiat Bravo sometime in December or early next year which will also cost around 25000 pounds or even more (Due to 102% Customs duty) !! and then the Fiat Punto will be launched next year which again will be locally produced.

Fiat is selling there cars through Tata Motor's showrooms so the Tata sales men are not that good with dealing with Fiat customers and the 500 is available only through 7 dealers out of the thousands, here in INDIA !! Also Fiat already has a locally produced model call the Fiat Palio which I think is not that bad for its price range, but again like I mentioned earlier,is not selling well due to just one main reason that being poor after sales service.

I hope when I get my 500 and take it for it's first service they will be able to service it properly, but I don't expect much from them (lets hope my car never gets a fault).

I hope that gives you all the answers (y).

Cheers

Omar

P.S. I did the research the Fiat guys here in India are basically bums !! LOL. I know more than them.

Fiat still seem to have a long way to go in their dealerships quality terms then, its not just UK Fiat dealers that generally dont seem to reach the benchmark required by Customers internationally.

Welcome to FF.
I had no idea Fiat and Tatas relationship had come so far as to already be sharing showrooms.
Makes the talk of the Nano being released in Europe with a few safety modifications and a shiney new Fiat badge on the front in a couple years much more believable.

Good luck getting your 500. I'm really looking forward to the photo in front of the Taj Mahal! :D

Ffoxy, I think its the same old story across the trade in the UK too. Having not had a Fiat before, I was so apprehensive, and yet my dealer (Norris Bros, Tamworth) have been great.

In contrast, my local BMW dealers have been appalling but in fairness consistent in their total lack of customer service. The dealer I use to avoid them is 50 miles away and they are great.

I have an Audi dealer locally that are also spot on.

Surprisingly, my best experience has been with the local Vauxhall dealer of all places who never failed to excell. As a result my wife kept her last car for 5 years knowing they would always pull the stops out to maintain a good relationship.

If you have a decent dealer principal in charge then it filters through, a poor one, and woe betide the customer.

Hi guys

I called the dealer today in INDIA and he says the car is BUILT and will be soon dispatched. Yippyyyyyyy :), so I should have it by mid of November.

But I'll be leaving UK only by the first week of December :(.

Cheers guys and once again thanks to every one (y)

Omar

P.S. I'll be the only one to have it in the town and I'm 100 % sure about it
