i had a play - by the time you add on the options that you WILL need, you're gonna be looking at £14,500-£15,000!!!
you can pick up a corsa vxr or clio 197 for a grand or so LESS than that, cars that would easily run rings around the stock abarth lol
As with everything, price can be fairly subjective, the statement that 'fiat are doing a job on anyone who buys one' remains to be seen. If it sells, then its priced right, but at this point its too early too tell. What your saying is that YOU think its expensive. Thats a different thing.
On the Clio 197 and Corsa VXR, both impressive cars for different reasons, but you fail to mention their list prices, The 197 lists at what, around £15,995 and the VXR about £15,500. Depending on who you believe that puts the Abarth at around 2-2.5k less. Of course, thats list price, factoring the discounts on cars that have been out for 2-1.5 years they both come out less than that, but again its unfair to compare a car thats yet to launch as we have no idea what discounts, if any, will materialize over the newer cars life. Plus, both those cars, possibly less so the Corsa as it does come stocked with kit, can be loaded on with options. A very well specced 197 will come out at around £17k, possibly more.
I have to say, I think the Abarth version of the 500 is well priced, doesn't seem all that expensive to me, except when you consider that the Twingo 133 is listing at £11,500, or £600 odd more with the Cup pack fitted.
I notice you've made the same comment about the Abarth Punto, if anything thats an even better buy than the 500, with more power and space.
