Hi,
Just went to see my car today :). It arrived last night. Its had its PDI, but it still needs a full Valet and the white plastic and bird poo removing.
But I wont be able to pick it up until Thursday because i've ordered the full bodykit. They said that the paint has to air dry and also the bodykit fixings may need a seal on them, which will also need to dry. So 3 full days still to wait (n).

I was told to contact a company about the free 7 day fiat insurance. But i was told that i needed to tell that my car is pre-reg for some reason. Why? 1- Is it normal for a brand new car at full price to be pre-reg?
2 - Or is it just what i need to tell this insurance company?
3 - Will the car still appear as if i'm the 1st and only owner?

Also, the Reg. i had agreed on the day i made the order and paid the deposit has now changed. Does this normally happen? Or should i be asking why and requesting the correct one (if its still avalible)?

What should have been a nice experience is now a little stressful :(, so any help to set my mind straight would be great.

Cheers

so is it an 08 with you as the first owner? if yes then its not pre reg.
if no e/g its got an owner before you (usually the dealer) then ultimately you'r buying a 2nd hand car so should realy be a couple of hundred pound cheeper.
air drying paint  it should have been painted in a heated spray booth, the bonding agent does air dry though it took an overnight stay when i had my A bar fitted.
the free insureance is a pain in the arse and the quote will be very expensive

I agree with the comments above, you need to speak to the dealer manager and take a copy of the invoice, which should show that the car you have ordered is brand new.

Having had about 5 new cars over the years, i can say catagorically that if it is sold as a new car, you are the first person on the reg document, if it is pre-reg, then no your not the first person and as has been mentioned, the car should be cheaper, as any future sale or trade in will show it as having more owners than might be expected or even preferred, although this wont matter as much if kept for quite a few years.

Personally, I would demand a brand new car and if the reg document didnt support this, then I would return the car. If you have the registration, why not try one of the hpi checks for about £6.00 online? Even the dvla have a site to check the tax and registration status.

The dvla site is here, just click the vehicle enquiry:

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

My date of registration is the day I collected the car, as supported by my reg document, which also states no previous keepers.

Hope this helps

I'd certainly be very unhappy if I was paying for a brand new car and wasn't the first keeper on the V5.

Nothing wrong with pre-registered if you can get a nice hefty disount on an otherwise new car , but they should let you know in advance if that's the case.

Cheers guys, I'll pop down and speak to the girl tomorrow. I'll see if we can iron these problems out.
I would have asked her today, but it didnt 'twig' until i was walking home, so this forum was my first 'port of call'.
Plus i would rather do it face to face than over the phone.

Its very strange that she told me to say it was a pre-reg car, why would she say that if it wasnt. But if it is then I want one hell of a discount. I didnt order and put a £500 deposit on a second hand car.

I may be jumping the gun here, 'cos everything maybe fine, but just in case, If it is pre-reg, what sort of discount should i be looking for?

White 500: I was told the guy doing the bodywork had said that he would normally put it in a heater/over but it couldnt be done with the 500 stuff.

Hi KJ
You know i know the feeling. Two weeks ago I collected my 500 from the dealer Brand new. the car was ready on the 28 of June but for several reasons I wasn't able to collect the car before the 4th of July. I then sent a mail to the dealer where I specify that i wanted the car to be registered on or after the 1st of July and that i will take collection on the 4th.
Long story short, they forced me with a load of b......t (also with the excuse of a rise in the price) to register the car on the 30th of June do the 7 days free insurance starting from the monday 30th (so that they could have it taxed) and have the car registered on the 30th. Lost one month of tax that was supposed to be from the 1st of July.
All this because... they wanted to hit target to make their bonus for the 2nd quarter. Since I wasn't born yesterday when i went to collect the car I told the sale guy to tell me the truth or I was going to refuse the car, and the real story come out. I told him i was really unhappy about the lies and said that was better to tell the real story in the first place and everything was goign to be fine. So the point is there is a chance they did something like registering the car asap or did some mess with the plates and now did have to say is preregistered even if it is registered to you in the first place. You should receive the V5 by Thursday anyway (at least this is what happened to me).
Hope this help
(By the way they missed the target by one car!!:p Their game didn't pay)

Simple - you ordered a new car so you could specify the spec as its first owner. You do not want a pre-reg. I can't understand a dealer pre reg a 500 at the moment - its not like they need to register 500s as there is a glut in a compound anywhere that need to appear to be moving.

as to a discount if they have pre-reg'd then i doubt you'd get more than £200 off.

You can get the dealer to cancel the first owner, provided they state its not been delivered. I did this with a new car i rejected after the dealer had registered it ready for my collection, but i found it with damaged paintwork after its pdi.

I had a similar thing with the panda last year. Basically the dealer had a car coming in a week after i placed an order. I agreed to go for this car but made sure i was the first owner, so avoided the pre-reg 'tag' which lets face it you'd avoid if you can.

If however you've specced a car then no way can it be a pre-reg. Ie as they have already sold it to you then the registration must by definition be in your name first.

Pre-reg cars are those that are bought by the dealer and then because they aren't sold are registered by the dealer, hence the pre-reg tag.

Hope that makes sense!

Also, the Reg. i had agreed on the day i made the order and paid the deposit has now changed. Does this normally happen? Or should i be asking why and requesting the correct one (if its still avalible)?

No it dosen't normally happe n:( Sounds like you've not got the car you've been sold:mad:

If you choose the reg, they would have done it to you there and then, sound's very dodgy. I'd ask what's happened to it. And request it back, if they've given it to someone else its their own fault!

Jon.

With my car, the dealer asked if they could register it by the end of June to meet their targets. I agreed as they offered to tax it for a year and a month, which is something dealers are able to do:) So when I picked it up I still had the tax for a whole year.

only possibility is the dealers had a pre reg car in there dealer stock with the exact spec you wanted so are supplying you with it hence different number plate if this is the case you should have realy been told. yes it will be a brand new car with less than 15 miles on it but it could make you the 2nd owner so would ask for a bit of discount 250-£300 or quite a few free extra's just remember you are the boss the car trade is struggling this year and they want you'r money

im guessin the 7 day insurance company they use only deal with used cars, so they have told you to tell them its pre reg to get the certificate.
There is no point in them pre registering your car, id be very suprised if they had.!!

Thanks everyone for your input.

Today I have sorted the Pre-reg question. It was only something i needed to say to the 7 Day Insurance company, 'cos the insurance is normally for new nissans at the same garage, they would'nt cover new fiats. So the car is New and I will be the FIRST and only owner. So thats a weight off my mind. :)

As for the wrong car reg. It turns out that the system for dealing with reg. plates with the DVLA had changed and become computerised. So the car was just assigned a random reg. The reg. i chose on the day of ordering is now on some random car somewhere in the UK. So I can't have it. :(
It had changed from ending in 'GUD' to ending in 'YAK'.

I have told the sales girl (who has been really helpful, friendly and honest thru-out) that I will have to reject the car as i cant have the reg i have chosen, unless they can offer me something to forget/feel better about this whole wrong reg. saga.

Am i being petty?
They will have difficulty selling the car because it is so customised. I dont want to get the sales girl in the s**t 'cos she has been great. But at the same time am i being a 'mug' if i just lay down and take this?
Also i dont want any bad blood with the guys who will be dealing with any problems i have with my car over the length of the warranty.

HELP!

Ummmmmm how do I put this YES :(, let me get this right.....you've ordered a new 500 which you've been waiting ages for and have now rejected it because of a random number plate . If your that fussed about a number then go to the DVLA web site & buy a reg number.

Sorry to be blunt but there are an awful lot of people on here who for what ever reasons have had genuine reasons to be upset with fiat or the dealership. Is your's a genuine reason or perhaps a lever for a little more discount/freebies :chin:.

All you might of done is send the "helpful" sales girl home n unhappy....& why over a random number plate .

Yoshi

When I bought mine the dealer gave me a list of about 50 registrations I could choose from. I ended up with the one I chose which was handy as the 7 day insurance I arranged with NU required me to give them the registration of the car to be covered.
Honestly though, none of them meant anything in particular to me so my advice to you would be that unless GUD were your initials or related to anything important I would not go through all the hassle.
As you have said, the sales person was helpful, friendly and honest so let this go and prepare to enjoy your 500.(y)

I think my problem is that i can be a real 'stick-in-the-mud'. When i get an idea in my head i dont like the image to change.
This really is a small issue if i think about, some of the s**t some people have had to deal with on the forum out weighs mine in everywhere.

I'm waiting for the girl to phone me back, once she is finished with a customer. And i'll let her know that i'll just have to deal with the new reg. and change that image in my mind. I am a little disappointed, but in the grand scheme of things, i guess i can cope.

Cheers for your help.

All sorted now and i'm going to keep the 'YUK', its got a little story attached to it now. :)
