I just wondered if 1.3 Diesel owners were finding that the DPF was clogging regularly.

Our car has done 800 miles and the warning light has already come on and gone off twice. The car does have short journeys - but even on these it is doing 60-70 mph on part of the run - so it is not creeping round.

Seems a bit too frequent to me!

no problems with mine it just gets a good revving

are you using bio diesel as this causes some problem with my diesel fleet

just hold in 3rd 3000rpm for about 1/2 mile and it will go out:D
as is get gets nice and hot and cleans it out (y)

A software update??

Are you joking - I only bought the car a month ago?

So what is this sofware update supposed to do?

Should my dealer who has just relieved me of £12k be contacting me about this software update? They haven't.

Mike

Well that is my question really.

I would have thought that 2 DPF blockages within 800 miles does represent the car complaining. What is the normal time/mileage cycle for build up / blockage and purging of the DPF?

Well you update your software on your home PC dont you? You install the latest drivers on your PC dont you? Most car ECU's are more powerful than your home PC so why should it be any different.

Oh no hang on....i'm joking!

A very interesting read. Do the user manuals with these Diesel cars say this though? Wouldn't surprise me if they don't hence why so many people are unfortunatly suffering from this problem.

Had a quick look in my manual and all it says is that if the light comes on just keep on driving and it will go out:confused:

Then again, it is only a handbook not a workshop manual and also the translation sometimes confuses things I have found. Lucky that we have access to info from people at the coalface, so to speak. I would read littlepips post as suggested.

Mine has done 800 miles so far, the first 150 driving back from the dealer so no probs there. The remaining have ALL been round town and my light hasn't come on yet.(y) The car was registered 31/05/08 so not sure if software update is current for me.

A sore subject, just got rid of my diesel.
Every 25 miles it poured smoke from the exhaust.
DPF changed & Rear box changed.
Fiat dealers scratching heads.
Returned it to dealer and got full refund (SALES OF GOODS ACT).
Last heard they were looking at sensors
Not much help I know.:bang:

I thought this thread would probably be the most relevant place to post the following which was press released two days ago:

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-rules-for-mot-to-test-for-diesel-particulate-filter

I'm sure though that there will be many people out there who won't give a rats fat one, but hopefully those that continue to stick two fingers up to the regulations, EU imposed or otherwise, will find out the hard way. I guess though they will only get found out if the DfT/VOSA/MOT inspectors actually find a way of discovering whether a DPF that is still present, has been tampered with. I don't hold out much hope for that to be honest.

I wouldn't have thought it would be that hard to devise a test for the presence of what is, basically, just elemental carbon?

The British public are a fickle lot - thirty-five years ago the anti-smoking lobby was almost a lost voice, yet now smoking's banned almost everywhere with fairly broad public support. If people properly understood the silent harm caused by internal combustion engine emissions, they'd soon sit up.
