Hi All

I have had my car 5 weeks and 2000+ miles now and its just loosening up nicely - however first day i had it my neighbour opened their car door onto it:eek: nicking the door , I can tell you I was not a happy bunny - my patio nearly grew another 6 feet that day.(Don't you just hate that "its only a car, don't get so upset" attitude some people have)

because it was a showroom car it didn't have side protectors. So off i went to my local fiat dealer to get some fitted.

When i asked how much i nearly fell over - £240

Aparently if you order factory fit £70 - if not the its 50 quid for the mouldings - 35 quid for the badges - 35 quid for a bonding kit - spraying and fitting plus the dreaded VAT. ouch.(n)

Add this to the £45 I've already paid out to get the dink removed - too much.

I have however found a nice man called Rob in poland :)who has been able to supply me with a nice set of self adhesive ones for the car. £29.00 + Post:D

Now i know they're just plain black vinyl and not the sparkley things you get from fiat - but my babies now protected they dont look bad, THey are good quality with 3M adhesive tape(y)they give the car a sportier edge to the look also - plus point - they can be removed at anytime(y)

I have some nice - chrome and red new shape fiat logo lapel badges that i am going to remove the pin off the back and fit to them to give them that pukka look also.

If any one else is in the same boat -and really cannot afford to go down the fiat route
Email Rob at [email protected] - very nice man:slayer:

All the best

Chris

I'm amazed they charge £35 for a bonding kit as it appears that the factory ones are only stuck on. My drivers side moulding was never stuck on properly & I could tell that they are originally supplied with self adhesive pads. My local dealer obtained, painted & fitted a new one under warranty & believe me that's only stuck on with pads that come fitted to the inside channel of the moulding.

What other bits can 'Rob' get cheap, does he have a website?

Should have turn round and told them you'd either charge them for the repair, or go through THEIR insurance.

Can this be done for door dings? It's still technically a collision:rolleyes:.

Up Date

Got the badges fitted now and even though i say so myself they look pretty smart.

Fitting tip - the profile of the strips at the join where the door shuts doesn't quite match - the way they've been cut means you get a nice curved edge on the rear moulding and sharp corners on the front - easily corrected with a steady hand and a pair of sharp scissors - just round the corners off slightly.(y)

Safe driving

C.

Looks very good, thinking of ordering a set for the wife's Honda Jazz from the same guy

Do they stick well & did the badges come with them?

Boy do they stick well - i cleaned the paint work with alcohol first (any excuse) :yum:

they are quite flexible - i spent a while with some masking tape and got a really straight line down the car as a guide - if these this go on wavey you aint going to move them without destroying the tape on the back.

The badges are from my local fiat dealer - they are £1.50 lapel badges with the pin cut off and the back ground flat.

PS does any one know why the photo i've up loaded to my profile wont display? - its within the required size?????
