Bare Metal on back of rear seat

I must admit I was shocked when I first saw this, who puts bare metal on the back of rear seats these days?, oh yeah fiat does! Mine's getting scratched already. Is everyone just leaving this the way it is or has anyone stuck something to it toprotect it & if so what?

Saves weight :)

Throw out the carpets, the perfume dispenser, rip out the door trims - gonna get myself some magnesium frame spectacles.

Its a cheap car, made in a cheap country... thats why some of its cheap:) The really nasty bit for me is the carpet inside the tailgate... that is really naff.
compared to its competitors the 500 aint no cheap car..
if the "bare" look bothers you
you could buy some matching grey/black carpet ( local carpet shop) cut it to the shape and size for the rear seat then drill the rear of the seat and use black push in pannel fastners ( halfords )to hold it in place :)

Is carpet necessary on a seatback; really?

I mean, everyone (except me and a few others I know) seems to want wooden floors in their houses these days. Now, for me this makes for a cold, draughty and slippy home, and one that is not snuggly for my toes - but nearly every house I visit has succumbed to this fashion. That's fine.

The luxury of delicious comfy carpets, in all their glorious variety, with all the gorgeous warmth of the orient delighting the senses is desirable, for me, in a house.

However, the, er, 'luxury', of matted grey carpet on the back of a car seat in a tiny car is, erm, pretty unnecessary I'd have thought and certainly not worth paying money for. I doubt it makes any difference to sound insulation, and nobody will walk on it?

wood floors are easier to clean when cat furballs on it, kids drop chewing gum on floor or if you spill drinks on.

All very true of course. Though if when I was a kid I had dropped chewing gum on a carpet my life would have been altered, for a time at least, and not in a good way. Our cats were short haired, so no furballs - and an immunity to infection built up as a bonus I suppose - and drinks don't usually stain carpets if cleaned up quickly. But I do take your point. As I have neither kids nor cats in my present incarnation the problem doesn't arise.

But these messy things are more likely to happen, in spades, in the rough and ready environment of a car, surely.

I think what I was intending to say was that it seems odd to object to the lack of two square feet of carpet on the back of a car seat if you are a person who doesn't want something similar on the floor at home.

I'd go for rubber:)
