i've pm'd you ian but will put it up here so it might be of use for someone else
what i do is...
wash the car well
clay the car with the clay bar, (its not essential but if your doing the job you might as well do it properly)
this need a bit of care
i use this http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...products_id=91
there is enough to do about 3 cars if they arn't filthy
it uses water rather than a special lubricant so is cost effective and the more water you use the better..
you use it like this
the Super resin polish is a very mild abrasive with a mixture of fillers to mask any fine scratches AKA swirl marks (often inflicted by a poor washing technique)
see this thread 1/2 way down as to what srp can do
http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/foru...ad.php?t=10656
this is best applied sparingly using a foam applicator pad like these
http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...products_id=44
(its also worth masking off any textured black plastic trim as it can be a real PITA to remove i use automotive masking tape
http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...roducts_id=109
you dont need much polish but you need to work it in well for the best result using an firm even pressure on the pad starting with a circular motion then alternating to a back and forth motion to ensure a good even coat,

once you have done a panel buff it off with a clean microfiber cloth
this section is now ready for sealing
since you want a good level of protection against bird droppings i'd go with a synthetic sealent Auto Glym's Extra Gloss Protection is readily available from most motor stores or on line
http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...roducts_id=100
its very runny and smells of turps
apply thinly to the car with a foam pad (in long gentle wipes) and allow an hour for it to harden and dry (it can be a real pig to buff off in the damp/ if it hasn't been left long enough to dry
allow an hour for this to harden then apply a second coat yet again leave it on for about an hour then buff off
you can leave it at that it will have a decent layer of protection just with that but for a real long life and maximum protection against your feathered freinds
you can after 24 hours or next weekend (to allow the Extra gloss to fully harden)
(wash the car first to remove any dirt and dry)
apply a couple of coats of wax (there are loads on the market) but for what its worth i'd recommend the Collinite range as its reasonably priced does exactly what it says on the tin and lasts A long time (in terms of protection and the amount of cars you can do with the tin)
this comes as a kit from this seller
http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/produc...roducts_id=400
and should be applied with a terry applicator (comes in the kit) which has been dampened in cold water before use and spread as thinly as possible one panel at a time then buffed off immediately before it fully drys
do the whole car leave 24 hours then apply another coat
then put your feet up....
then just keep it clean use a decent car shampoo and follow this guide
