Technical Rear wiper not working in reverse

Technical Rear wiper not working in reverse

I wonder if I'm getting confused with my old car......

In the 500, is the rear wiper 'supposed' to come on automatically when I put the car in reverse, irrespective of whether the front wipers are on or not? I'm pretty sure they did in my previous Megane.

Or, will the rear wiper only come on automatically when I go into reverse, IF the front wipers are switched on too? Can't find owt in the manual.

I also thought I'd read somewhere on the forum that the engine won't (ie isn't supposed to) start if the boot is open. We found out accidently, that our 500's engine started while my other half was still loading up the boot after our B&Q visit.

I've read in some posts on here that the engine doesn't start with the boot open.

complete rubbish no fiat does this

just imagine if the boot closed switch failed and you couldn't start it how would you get to the dealer to get it fixed

completely bad idea ay

and why would you want the rear wiper to wipe when it's not raining only when the front wipers are on and reverse selected it works

We're still new to the car as we've only had it four weeks and it's a case of just getting used to what the 500 does and doesn't do compared to the previous car, the Megane. In the Megane the rear wiper came on automatically when you went into reverse. Also, the Megane would not start with the boot open, or if it was in gear.

On the other Fiat 500 forum there was a post where someone couldn't start their 500 as their boot was open. It's the thread entitled "What's the biggest thing you've had in the back of your 500?" ... and so we wondered if it was the same with the 500.

As Pip says I doubt the problem was with the boot being open. How was the conclusion reached it was because the boot was open? As it really makes no sense.

So like what if you needed to carry a larger load in the boot and the tailgate needed to be open but tied down:confused:

Mmmm, I didn't think of that, fenton and beast and littlepip. It doesn't make sense does it....and I shouldn't compare it to my old car either. Think I'm having a blonde day today...

senior moment

everything on fiats is there for a reasone and 99.9 percent of the time a very good well thought out reasone

as a posed to French cars were most of the stuff is there for an intended good reason but ends up being a really annoying and troublesome and a waste of time like

for example take a look at the front of an 807 or as we here know it the fiat ulesse how do you change the wiper blades you cant get to them with the bonnet closed or open

well you have to press the wier stalk after the car has been turned off this automatically parks the wipers at the top of the screen on either side

now seems clever but it means more electrics one more park switch on the wiper motor and just more expense on the car for no good reason that i can see

Same with my 406

Don't know what they smoked when they were doing that.
