As I've been checking oil consumption regularly on my 1.4 (not needed topped up in 2000 miles), I've noticed:
1. the engine compartment gets noticeably hot, even the bonnet and front wings heat up quite a bit - I guess not unexpected given the tiny space to fit the engine
2. there is no rubber seal along the front of the bonnet so rain water blows in under the bonnet edge all over the engine, battery etc. This even happens when the car is at a standstill overnight and the engine can get quite wet
3. there is a fair amount of play in the bonnet as it seems to move around a bit on its hinges so getting it to fit back properly when closing isn't easy

Number 3 dosen't sound right. Take it back and get it check I'd suggest, and mention about point 2 at the same time.

Point 1 sounds normal.

there shouldnt be any seal on the front of the bonnet that's how they all are

bonnet should be quite secure:eek: so sounds unusual something to check

and finally fiat fire engines don't burn any oil to speak off there good like that:D :slayer:

So would that mean I've got a problem with mine then? Used 3/4 of the dipstick measurement in 9,000 miles. Dosen't burn it, but uses it if your know what I mean.

that's not bad at all even by modern standards but it is more than an 8v fre normally uses

it's probably going up your breather pipe from the rocker cover

take it off and give it a clean

my boss's audi uses 1 litre of oil for every 2 tanks of fuel he puts in it and our accountants car does the same
