As for OP who's gonna split hairs over <50cc .
There is little difference in it with modern diesels mostly due to the massive demand for them nowadays. Bigger demand = cheaper per unit. Kia of all companies offer their diesels for exactly the same price as the petrol equivelent with the Ceed.

But still there's the cost of the turbo plus the extra metal for the block and head
How the heck am I spamming. What is it with people around here who think you're spamming/trolling because you don't agree with everything people say? Do you know what spamming actually is?
He wasn' accusing you of spamming. Thats J1ppers job.

bit harsh:nono:
every1 is here to help/learn
Yes your right but they actually produce more diesel units than petrol nowadays which evens out the price so there is no reason for them to charge excessivly for the diesels anymore. Main comparrison for this would be the 1.4 T-jet engine against the 1.3 Mjet in the GP you can actually buy a T-jet sporting than a lower spec 1.3 Mjet which cost pretty much the same to manufacture :bang:.
I think the manufacturers are just cashing in on this.
I do think that it gets to a point where it doesn't get cheaper to manufacture an engine though. Fiat are still going to be using the same amount of metal in the block of a 1.3 mj regardless of the economy of scale
You really think that there is £1400 worth of extra metal in the MJ? The extra metal costs pennies (at most).
Yes there are ancillaries which are more expensive too, but by far the biggest chunk of that £1400 has nothing to do with cost of manufacture. It has to do with recouping massive R&D budgets which have been spent, for the most part, trying to reduce NOx emmissions and particulate pollution.
winge winge winge!!!!!
1 had it been advertised as a 1.2 diesel do you think they would sell aswell as they have no of course not
2 turbo diesels and indeed petrols tend to be rounded up from 50cc or near enough at 1248
as they have a turbo so most of the time are using more than 1248cc anyway
3 and again it stops confusion between it and the very close petrol at 1242cc
now go get a remap and stop winging
True. I don't think it'll be pennies but of course nowhere near £1400 but the turbo and the fact that manufacturers cash in on people going for diesel's because they get better mileage should explain it somewhat.
hum lets add it up shall we stronger much more robust engine turbo inter cooler oil cooler particulate trap more expensive catalytic converter 3000bar injection system injecting 7 times for every fire of the engine more robust gearbox the 514r bigger drive shafts
you see i can easily see £1400 spent there why cant you
i could go on there's plenty more
I wasn't actually the one arguing that the diesel shouldn't be the same price as the 1.4
I wonder if Fiat will raise the prices for the new direct injection petrol "multiair" engines they're releasing in a year or two for the 500. Electronically controlled valves and direct injection won't be cheap.
