My fuel gauge was going up and down until I took it into the dealers and they took the steering column off to get to the electrics and that seems to have fixed it as it hasnt happened since and it was going up and down a few times a day!!

So it wasn't the fuel pump connection!!! Was feeling relatively pleased for 4 days as the fuel gauge behaved itself and then yesterday, as the contents fell down to about half full, the contents suddenly dropped to nothing and the low fuel light came on. "Please could we have the car for another couple of days for further investigation" was the dealer's response. Trouble is the insurance company wants megabucks for the admin charge to cover the offered courtesy car - and the dealer won't contribute to that cost - not to mention the inconvenience of dropping off and collecting, and being without the car if we don't take the courtesy one!

Are you reading this, Mr FIAT? The word will soon be out that your car is not of merchantable quality, so find a cause and fix it quickly!
:bang:

The saga continues! Dropped the car into the dealers yesterday, but no action taken because they were waiting for a new body computer, which wasn't expected until today! That's another day unnecessarily without the car.
Then, this morning...:bang: "Sorry, body computers are on back order - you can have your car back and we'll call you when it's in!" As I already said: "Why can't they do things in the right order?"

Apparently, it's a good sign when items are in demand because there is clearly a common problem. Yeah, but only if the replacements have been brought up to spec....

Hope this helps anyone else who is suffering teething troubles.

The body computer is by Delphi, it seems to be located in the passenger side LH footwell. It might be worth just checking the connectors, if the garage has not already done this.

Thanks for the reply, JRS. I would hope that in the 3 visits (5 days) that the car has been with the dealer that they would have done the obvious checks, especially as they have ordered a new body computer....but you never know...!
