Hello...

I am looking at changing the other halfs car to a 500 and have a few questions..

We are looking at the 1.2 Sport/Lounge or 1.3 Pop

Is the 1.3 engine better than the 1.2 for both refinement and economy?

Whats the best spec to go for?

And what sort of discounts could i expect to get, if any?

Many thanks

1.3 better economy & torque, 1.2 quieter.

Re: 500 advice...

1.2 is cheaper to buy. 1.3 is more economical and has more power, but the 1.2 is very very economical for a petrol as well, so it IS a difficult decision...unless of course, you want more power, in which case it's a no brainer...go for 1.3...and no HG probs by now!(y) Good luck in your choice..I'm sure your g/f will love both!:D

Re: 500 advice...

Thanks for your advice

Off to see one today amongst others, and no one of them wont be a mini!

Re: 500 advice...

with the price of diesel being at least 10p more per litre most places and the fact that the car is £1300 more to start - we chose the 1.2 petrol. it`ll take you years to regain the extra money spent on the diesel engine in fuel economy, 1.2 is economical enough imo

stick with 1.2 petrol - cheep tax £35 year- unsure about diesel tax

good luck whichever way you turn (y)

Re: 500 advice...

it's not really about the savings in fuel by itself that I went for a diesel...its about the extra power and greater range. That combined with better economy imo makes the £1400 extra worth it...It's certainly not about recouping fuel costs in comparison with petrol over the next 3 or 4 years....anyway most of us won't be able to afford ANY fuel by that time....it'l be 4 or 5 quid a litre at the current rate of escalation.

Diesel road tax is the same as 1.2.

About 18,000 miles before you write off the £1400 premium of the diesel.

Re: 500 advice...

Been to my local dealer today and fell in love with the Fiat 500 (infact i like it more than my Clio 197 F1), we are going for a 1.2 Lounge in white with chrome mirrors, tinted windows and side strips

3 months wait... better than my 5 month wait for the Clio though!!

Purchased without even having a test drive!

Thanks for your advice

Re: 500 advice...

You've made a good decision. I collected my 1.2 Lounge on Wednesday & it is a truly great little car. IMO the Lounge spec is the best on offer & the 1.2 petrol engine is nippy enough on our congested roads. Also, at £1,400 less than the diesel, with the equivalent annual tax of £35, it's great value for money too.

I used to own a Bini Cooper S but don't regret selling it. The character & style of the 500 makes it a joy to own.

Good luck with your purchase.

NIce one Alfie. Did you get any discount? Managed to get chrome mirrors an d side strips for nowt. But other than that they wouldnt budge

Re: 500 advice...

No discount for me, not even free mats !! :(

I didn't mind though as the Lounge spec is so good for the money,
especially after the Cooper S !!

Re: 500 advice...

Has anyone seen the amount of mini's (bmw) in Fiat dealers secondhand for sale:eek:

Yes, there was a Bini diesel at my dealership. The salesman said that no one has even been to look at it & its been there for about 3 weeks !!

Re: 500 advice...

IMHO the 75hp multijet is not very good value for money when compared with the 1.2. The petrol version is only slightly less economical and has poorer in gear acceleration yet costs much less. With petrol now more expensive than diesel it will take a lot of miles/years for a city car to recover the initial premium - money better spent on lounge spec, I think.
