Folks,

Has anyone managed to fit an adult sized mountain bike inside a 500?

Asking becuase I have to take a bike back to London from the West Midlands and I don't really fancy the hassle of a bike carrier as it is an one-off errand.

Any feedback would be welcome!

Thanks

I imagine it is ok to get one in. Might have to take both wheels off and drop the saddle though. With the seats down in the 500 its actually amazing how much stuff you can actually fit in the back (y)

Yes you can get a full size mountain bike in the back with the rear seats down. I have managed to fit a full suspension 26” size wheels in. I removed the wheels, saddle and pedals to make life easier. I also folded the de-railer forward against the frame and held it in place with a cable tie. Sounds a bit of a faf but it only takes about 5 minutes to rebuild the bike.
To protect the car I bought a 1.5 ton Hippo Bag from B & Q cost £10 (It’s basically a fabric skip but will more than protect the car). If you struggle with the pedals Halfords sell a really good pedal spanner I think it’s about £13. If you really want to go all the way you can buy wheel bags and a bike bag but the problem with the bike bags apart from the cost is the fact that they have a rigid base which may make fitting in the car a problem.
Hope this Helps

oh god if its a decent bike dont post it

if you do go to a bike shop ask nicely and get a proper bike box (the card board ones new bikes come in they should be glad to get rid of them as they have to pay for a skip) also blag some "drop out spacers" as with the wheels removed to fit in the box the frame is easily crushed
