Hi,

Could anyone be so kind as to inform me of the approximate % of mark up on parts and accessories that official FIAT dealers have.

I assume that there is a standard recommended price list as with the cars themselves and that each dealer has some leeway to discount or charge a premium.

Having seen that some accessories are between 2 and 4 times (plus fitting costs) more expensive than when ordered as part of a new car spec I am curious to know who is making the most profit - FIAT or the dealer.

Cheers.

Margin will be different for every component. There is not I believe any magic 7% mark up.

We have a couple parts guys who are members maybe one of them may have more information. Although at the same time I don't know how willing they will be to reveal that sort of information. :)

I don't know the answer to the question, but from bitter experience with other brands, manufacturers can have unrealistic fitting times for accessories.

Rarely does this work in the dealership's favour, usually the dealership has to charge more to cover their costs, rather than make a larger profit.

However, there was story on here of someone being charged 3 hours to glue a trim on.

I suspect that the dealership had never fitted one before and assumed that the front panel would have to come off to fit the part from behind, rather than apply glue and stick on from the front.

Cheers

Most recent example was body side mouldings. 120% more expensive from dealer than when fitted on the car in the factory. Fitting cost on top of that too.

After swift negotiation the fitting charge was waived and price of parts dropped 20% so either they were keen to please and/or they had more than a 20% mark up.

Got Mrs Shady to buy some Grande Punto mats for me , retail approx £43, after much flirting she got them for £30.

wish i could work it out myself haow much the mark up is!

i know am really pleased now though as just bought the chrome bonnet strip and the chrome a frame (the bit that goes with the bonnet strip) and it only cost me £107 (y)

only trouble now is i gotta have them fitted which bumps the price up another 157 :(

but at least the car will look good (y)

Also having mud flaps fitted to

Why is it costing £157 to stick two bits of plastic on?

Cheers

it takes an hour for the plastic to be put on and the a frame thing has to be sealed on and takes 48 hrs to dry (+ you have to pay for the sealer stuff!) and they said it will take about an hour for the mud flaps too

seemed quite expensive but did get the parts at cost

Yes it takes 48 hours to go off, but you don't pay for the 48 hours!

The instructions for the A frame are quite simple. Clean front panel, apply glue, stick it on, apply masking tape to hold it in place. Retire for 48 hours, remove masking tape.

I can understand an hour for the mudflaps, so what is the hourly rate at your Fiat emporium?

Its possible it would have been cheaper to pay retail for the parts and have them fit at an internal rate.

dunno about the hourly rate expensive i guess lol...
the 157 includes £20 for two tubes of sealer apparently they get the tubes and then mix it to the correct colour of the car (or so i was told)

It all beyond me give me something to do with computers and i will be fine but cars i just dont get lol...

Extract of bovine I'm afraid, but hey ho, the price for the parts ain't bad so I suppose its the old swings 'n' roundabouts thing again.

Agree here that dealer prices vary wildly Example:-

1 dealer quoted £877 to paint and fit the front, rear and side skirts, + colour match the wing mirror stalk to my 500 when it arrives, another charged £540.

Guess which one got my order :)
