On my way home in my 500 yesterday I saw one exactly the same colour as mine (funk grey) being towed on the road. Apparently I heard today from a friend who works in a non fiat garage that they had driven into her garage as they had realised they put the wrong fuel in!! They had gone about 1/2 a mile. Hope there's no damage......

It will cost a fortune (for the disposal of the mixed fuel) if they have driven it it will probably need a full fuel system flush and clean possibly new fuel injector rail, and perhaps a new CAT converter if its knackered..

bet they wont do it again

Best thing to do if you realize you have put the wrong fuel in is NOT TO START IT! I dont think Fiat have gone down the fuel pump prime when unlocking route so you'd be fine unlocking the car and turning it ONE click to release the steering lock and push it out of the way and call on the nice AA man :worship:

On some cars the fuel pump primes when unlocking if thats the case don't unlock the car!

I'd assume that they had put unleaded in a Derv as it would be almost impossible to put Derv in a petrol due to the filler neck restriction

the fuel pump primes as soon as you turn the ignition to mar there fore you would have to flick the ignition very quickly to release the steering lock or open the bonnet and release the quick release battery earth terminal before doing so

in my experience fiat don't generally have problems with petrol in diesel or diesel in petrol even after being run they just need to be emptied and the correct fuel run thou to clear the system normally diesels are the main problem as high pressure pumps can suffer but the pump in the tank will have no problem i believe there the same anyway

if a full tank or substantial amount of incorect fuel is used the driver will become very aware of there mistake before any damage is done
