Why the switch from BMW to Fiat?

Re: Dualogic goosed on three day old 500

Even robotised manuals should be pretty smooth. Once you get the hang of them, lifting off the throttle at the right time and changing just when; you should get a pretty smooth change (once your gearbox is fixed of course ) The press really slate the new Fortwo for having a really jerky slow change... I didn't find that at all. I guess it's just down to technique.

As for the inticators, I'm feeling you! They usually cancel half way round a round about or refuse to cancel after going round a bend, even a pretty sharp bend. Ahh well!

Are you able to take photos of the defects in the paint?

Yes I know friends who have had problems with their german cars but singular not three at once or all in the same week.
in saying all that a Ducati I had would not run after the first week because I was using unleaded petrol in her
Not at all the should be fixed, damaged paintwork is unforgiveable and should be sorted. All I am saying is be a bit patient with the teething problems and then in six months or a year if the car has still had more faults then fair enough in your comments.

The indicators are the same on my car too, any less than 1/2 turn of lock & they don't cancel.

It's what gives a car character.

As for the paint, I have a small, what look like piece of dirt under the paint on my bonnet. I'll get the dealer to take a look next time I'm down there.

Re: Dualogic goosed on three day old 500

Well, the indicators are a bit characterful on my 1.4 Sport as well. However, the Dualogic problem is certainly quite worrying. This gearbox has been around for about two years now, and you would think that Fiat would have got the bugs ironed out. I have driven one in a GP, and it was really very good, so they can work OK - but there are a lot of threads elsewhere on this site regarding problems with the auto box. Straight from the factory, it should be set up perfectly. Which engine is it that the OP has got - 1.2 or 1.4?

You obviously haven't been on FF long enough to know about the Dualogic issues..

(And yes, "Where?" was meant to be a sarcastic question, which obviously fell flat )

Re: Dualogic goosed on three day old 500

Mercedes can be very unreliable cars. The perception of German cars is, like that of Japanese ones, one of infallible reliability. Not so. A friend of mine works at a VW dealership and their problems are worse than the Fiat ones. Customers throw hissies all the time and the staff go sick regularly. Odd to believe, but true.
I'd avoid German like the plague and have something good looking with charm (not a word possible to use on anything German), character; and available in other colours besides grey, a different grey, black, and dark blue.
