Hello.

I'm a newbie to this forum, but have fallen for the new 500 and desperately want one.........

I've been making enquiries with my local dealer regarding the spec of my 1.3 Multijet Sport and have just been informed (10 minutes ago) that due to ongoing problems with the sunroof they have stopped offering it as an option and it is being removed from the Fiat website today?!!

The sales guy told me that the only 500's in the UK featuring the electric sunroof are all demos initially supplied with the first UK delivery.

No news on whether it will be offered as an option in the near future.

Shame - I was looking forward to a tanned face this summer.

Never mind, it was a frail looking thing anyway, and would probably have proved noisy and more annoying than useful. Not to mention that it robbed so much headroom that the resultant car became only suitable for the little people.

By the way, I have just been to my dealer on another matter and seen a yellow Sport. What a fantastic colour for the 500.

This is THE ONE! Utterly stunning. I even liked the black steering wheel.
Now, with red leather seats this would be quite a colourful little thing:yum:

When I went in to order my yellow BIBI there was a customers yellow sport in the back having bits put on! He had gone for the red leather seats, Fraid I didnt like it, thought it clashed dreadfully with the yellow! but then thats just my opinion! :D

I wouldn't want any bits added; that's the beauty of the Sport for me: unadorned. However, I know what you mean by the colour clashing, trouble is, I just love colour in little cars. Green leather seats would be smarest (green and yellow(y)), but they are unavailable. I'd also like to see it with the tan seats, which would likely be 'smarter', if less brave.

As for the sunroof;), I wonder what the noise would be like driving one open, at speed?

EH!!?!?!? they better be kidding mate. My 1.2 sport has a sunroof on it. It's already in the dealers after 3 days ownership and 200 miles cos the Dualogic is playing up .

This better not be another thing I'll have to eventually add to a list which only after three days is already getting long (n)

As of 5pm today when I left work this had not been announced by Fiat, so I have no idea where your dealership are getting the information from?

The sunroof is not available until June production, but we've known that for months, so it may well be removed from the website (delayed options always are) but that doesn't mean it is being withdrawn as an option.

Probably due to the amount of grease covered components that are exposed when the roof is opened. This would cause big problems later on not to mention the chance of getting messy hands if they go a wandering in bored moments! (n)

I disagree with all the points you mention.:p

It's solid, quiet, fun, and I am 6'1" tall.

Also, the original 500 had an opening roof, so it keeps more of the charater. :)

 What an odd post. It's the same for any greasy part of the car - door hinges, hubs, etc, and also the same for any car with a sunroof.

I don't mind if they are withdrawn as an option - it only increases the value of mine. :D

You can't touch the hinges, hubs etc whilst sitting in and driving the car but a foot long greasy slider is well within reach.

Will be interesting to see why FIAT are removing this option. Perhaps it's just prone to failure or leaks.

I still can't see why you might accidentally shove your hands into the sunroof mechanism. Maybe an inquisitive toddler would, but they can't reach. Cars have had sunroofs for decades - curious fingers can't be a reason to withdraw them.

Indeed, as you say, if the option is being removed, it would interesting to hear Fiat's reasoning.

It is still an option (extra cost obviously) on the Lounge. I can only surmaise it is to do with supply rather than technical problems.

I ordered this on my Sport 1.2 in early February and have been assured delivery is still on track for late April / early May. Last update from the dealer was mid-March with it at status 20.

The waiting is sheer torture but consoling myself in the Streetka whilst the sun lasts.

Fair enough, but at only 6'0 I found my head actually pressing on the frame, and worse in the passenger seat. I demand good headroom (and I confess to disliking sunroofs anyway), and I am not the only one to find this problem with the sunroof option.

Interesting to hear that it is quiet at speed though.

Placed an order today for a 500 with the Electric Sunroof option...

And it's still/back on the Configurator on the Fiat website...

Obviously it's not been 'scrapped'.

I ordered my 1.2 pop in January with an electric sunroof and I got mine about 3 weeks ago now! I have to say I do find the car a little noisy on the motorway, almost sounds like I have a window open even though I dont. The sunroof is nice in good weather though but I think it does make it a little more noisy.

And I think the sunroof actaully adds more head space! you get at least an extra inch!

the sunroofs have not been withdrawn

greasy rails=don't put your fingers in the rails why would you anyway

water leaks=not these they don't leak a drop so don't worry pandas with them fitted and gp's have been excellent

noise=what sun roof doesn't make extra noise in the passenger compartment anyway it's not excessive at all

head room=must remember that the seats are lower in the sport models before making a comparison with other equally tall members

no models except demo's with sun roofs fitted in the uk=rubbish i pdi'd loads give that sales man a short sharp shock for telling you that
