Anyone out there had the replace head gasket fitted yet?

They were supposed to be availiable from Monday, its Friday now and appartently the gasket has just turned up today but the other bits hoses or something haven't.

The dealer hasn't a clue when all the parts will be in.

SO frustrating considering the car has been there since middle of Feb as we wanted an 08 plate.

I got my car on Thursday and I had it for a whole four hours before the dealer twigged that it was one of the cars that needed the head gasket fitting and took it back again. Grrrr. They can't give me any indication when the parts will arrive - just keep saying "a couple of days" - and then say it'll take 2 days to do the work. Really frustrating but will be worth the wait.

I have been told that mine is in the workshop now and collection is planned for Thursday. The delay is not all down to the engine though as we had other issues aswell.

:eek:What were your other issues!!!!???
16" two-tone wheels were ordered but now they don't exist! so I am waiting for 15" two tone as replacements for the standard 16" wheels that the car arrived with.

How would I know if the head gasket had gone?

Thanks
D

You'd notice by a big cloud of white oily steamy smoke out the exhaust pipe and what Jake in Notts says

I picked up my car at lunchtime today (Monday) and it has had the gasket work done although you wouldn't know from looking under the bonet! Mine was the first car done at the dealers, so don't know if that's good or bad.

I put on 35 miles this afternoon and there is a slight vibration at just below 3000rpm tha sounds like it's coming from the passenger side footwell or exhaust and I've only managed to get 28 mpg overall so far, although I was 4 up with the wife and kids and was deiving it quite briskly, but even so I should be getting a lot more than that.

Don't know if either of these are related to the engine work. Will keep an eye on things over the next couple of days.

Mine is being delivered to me in the next hour! This time yesterday, they said the parts were still "in transit" so they clearly have a very speedy mechanic over there. Good luck everyone else!

I'm not getting excited until I have the keys in my hand and 24 hours have passed - after last week's fun and games when they delivered him (it's a him now!) and then took him back again hours later. Oh alright then, I'm excited!

28mpg:) youve been either really caning the poor thing or something is very wrong.

No I've not been caning it and the MPG is creeping up to 34MPG now. Had this engine before in a Punto and never got less than 40 odd MPG.

Rattle is getting worse - sounds like exhaust vibrating against something or other. Will keep eye on MPG and it'll be back to the dealer for a check up on things soon.

Oh God; here we go...

New car, built with duff components and now seemingly messed about with by the dealer; and now something obviously very wrong with the fuel consumption (your figures are accurate?) and a worsening rattle.

The Multijet 1300 is a superb engine, but Fiat must make sure customers are not inconvenienced in any way by a manufacturing error they are responsible for.

Ask for some compensation - a couple of years free servicing and a huge box of chocolates and some flowers, plus a written apology would be a beginning.
