General Fiat claims ordes 6000 for 500 within a few hours of launch

Just back from a few days in Rome for the rugby

Quite shocked that there we saw more of the original two cylinder cars than the new one !

it will be interesting if anyone knows how any shifts they are working in the Poland factory..?

i imagine they have people working overtime to uplift the capacity!

I see More hype and bollex from Fiat and Auto express today.

Fiat executives, who have hit the proverbial jackpot with the 500, cannot wipe the smiles off their faces because of 500. The growing waiting list is evidence of this 500 madness that hasn’t been seen since the launch of the new MINI in 2001So bad/good is the situation – depending on who’s asking – that certain buyers are taking advantage and seeing the investment opportunity presented by the shortage of cars. They are offering their cars for sale on auction on websites like eBay, some at ridiculous prices, because they know the waiting list is long and oglers with the cash aren’t willing to wait.

That would be why the sales guys from the dealer near me who drink at the pub where I work at weekends are complaining they are allowed to sell some of their 500 demos but cant find buyers for them . Now Fiat are offering them extra units they havent sold what theyve already got.

That would be why some ebay and autotrader peeps who were trying to make a profit have reduced the prices of their speculative purchases just to try and get their money back and are selling their £500 deposits for just £500:rolleyes:

Seems more like some speculators will get caught out with 500
wont make a profit and catch something nasty. ;)

The point is to Ignore the hype.Dont pay over list for a new one or let them (dealer or speculator) sell you a used and pre-owned 500 at list price. Make them work for a sale.

Speculators versus real 500 fans?
seems like The speculators are losing, and in a few weeks I want it to be Game set and match to the real 500 lovers

I think we all realise that, no one here has bought a LHD one have they?
Thing is to keep an even head about these cars. We are all being told that they are not being discounted to keep residuals up, I personally feel this wont happen. I also feel that in time Fiat will be disounting, just wait for the 0% finance offers:)

I fully expect my 500 to depreciate the same as other Fiats, if it doesnt I will be happily surprised.... but I shant be suprised if it loses say 60% over three years. Im not bothered, I wanted one and thats all that matters. If I wanted depreciation proof then an old 500 would fit the bill:)

Wait until a few more are seen driving around and the weather warms up!

Had a letter yesterday stating that UK orders are on track to reach 4,000 by the end of February, so no idea who quoted 6,000 on the launch day?

internal and external communications often say very different things.

Press releases ALWAYS overstate figures.( look at profits quotes from companies and transfer.)

Internal information is usually closer.

Dealer sales staff who drink at the local pub I work at weekends say 500 not selling as well as some dealers thought.Theres unsold stock and demos still for sale. They were supposed to come in and go out immed with no need to keep stock.:slayer: They know I'm into the 500 and say car supermarkets will get them in the end with demos at good prices in under 3 months

Not good for dealers or speculators, good for buyers tho;)
Loads on autotrader for sale but no bargains YET:devil:

It is quite clear to everybody that punters do not want off the shelf cars, hence the poor adoption of the demo cars.

plus the fact that demos are driven hard and without care, by load of people testing them.
I would never buy a demo, regardless of the saving made.

Well my Alfa 156 1.9 Mjet 16v was an ex demo and it's never missed a beat in my 3 years of ownership. I got a £23k car with 5000 miles on the clock at 9 months old for £15k.

Anyway, from what I hear they are better cained from the off. Running in is a thing of the past. My car doesn't use any oil either and I've only ever had to top it up once and that was just before a service when it was still two thirds full.

I'd always consider buying a demo as well as they are usually a good spec to show off the car. My Alfa's a Veloce with upgrade alloys and full MOMO leather.

I will add though that this doesn't probably apply to most dealer stock/demo 5oo's, which don't seem too highly specced

The other thing is that I don't think that demos are thrashed all the time. If anything most people are cautious when driving a car for the first time and the salespeople don't muller them like they used to in the old days, well maybe with a performace model yes.

Buying a demo is just the same as buying a used car.
