Went to a dealer yesterday said was interested in 500 with a 1.4 and arranged to test drive their 1.4 lounge early next week.:(

Now I find someone on a forum whose looking for a 1.2 Panda or 500 who has booked to drive the same 500 car at same dealer and same salesman and has been told them this same white lounge 500 is a 1.2

Went in again and salesman admits hes been told by management to tell peeps that this white lounge is a 1.2 OR a 1.4 whichever they are looking for. They only have the one lounge car to demo and whichever size petrol engine U want, 1.2 or 1.4 that's what they say it is.(n)

I may or may not turn up at the weekend for my test drive.
May turn up and take it for the longest test drive ever

If going for a test drive in a 500, make sure you are test driving the engine you think you are. Shock. horror! some fiat salesmen tell you lies:devil::(:yuck:

Name and shame the dealer?
MMMMmmmm there's a thought.

Telling people there driving the 1.4 when it's a 1.2 is hardly going to encourage sales. This could however explain the lack of power comments going aroud about the 1.4.

There arn't any 1.2s in the UK yet so people who think the 1.4 is underpowered is because they genuinely think it is, not because it's secretly a 1.2 they're driving :)

No one knows for sure there are NO 1.2's in the UK. And BTW I was only joking regarding the reason for the comments on the 1.4.

There aren't. Not at dealers anyway.

I know it's been said a gazillion* times, but here it is again:

All UK Fiat dealers are getting/have already got a 1.4 Sport, 1.4 Lounge and 1.3 Lounge as their showroom/demonstrator cars. Additional to this, all dealers had a launch allocation of 2 further cars that could be ordered as any model/engine.

Most, if not all, of these additional cars will have been sold to customers, but some may have been ordered as further demonstrators (hence some dealers may have a 1.2 on order)

However, none of the additional cars will be built before Week 3 (week-commencing 14 January) so, regardless of whether they are sold to customers or being used as demonstrators, they will not be in the UK before February.

* May not be an exact figure

It's things like this that make me ashamed to be a car dealer sometimes.
All salesmen then get tarnished with the same brush.:bang:

All i would suggest is that you lift the bonnet before you test drive the car!
Oh and Ms Cinq, go elsewhere. I wouldnt trust them as far as i could throw them if that is how they work upon first meeting them (n)

I don't recall saying dealers had a 1.2.
You're right, you didn't, but as the topic of this thread is a dealer lying to Ms_Cinq about having a 1.2; and as dealers are the only place anyone that doesn't work for Fiat or the Motoring Press is going to be able to drive any 500, it was a pretty pointless comment to make if you didn't mean that ;)

If a sweeping statement is made like there are no 1.2's in the UK it requires clarification. My whole comment was lighthearted as stated therefore it could all have been described as pointless. It's a shame if we are not able to make the odd frivilous comment without some great meaningful point behind it.

fiatdownunder your psychic powers are better then mscinq you seem to know all the cars on UK roads all the way from NZ.

No Ricky, i actually read the posts that people write before making a comment.
I also worked for Fiat for 5 years and am in contact with a few dealers over there still, including area managers (you know, the ones with quite a lot knowledge about the FIAT brand!!!)

If I open the bonnet and look at the engine next time I go and look at a 500 will it atually say on it 1.2 or 1.4 or do they look completely different, if so what is the difference or do I have to get someone to take it apart first and measure cubic capacity of the bits insideas that could be a problemo with the salesman looking over my shoulder.Brake discs and springs are supposed to be different on 1.4 to 1.2 arent they, but I dont think its easy to see precisely how they are different without removing a wheel or two. :)

If you're looking under the bonnet, this is what to look for...

1.2 - This has the new Fiat logo on the engine cover.
1.3 - It says MultiJet on the engine cover.
1.4 - Has the 100hp badge on the engine cover.

;)
