Re the 16" alloys - I know there was a letter to all Fiat dealers saying that 16" alloys would delay build of a car to March / April time (there's a post about it somewhere on here or nf500 forums) and I heard my dealer telling some prospective dealers the same thing.

Re the test drive - compared to the Panda 100bhp, the 500 seemed a little slow on pick up (we were 3 up though as we had the dealer in the back!) and needs quite high revs to avoid stalling. High clutch, responsive brakes. Handles nicely with the sport button on. Beautiful build quality and thank god the seats in the Sport are lower as my hubby didn't fit in the Lounge in the showroom - his head was against the sunroof (he's 6' 2")! Ride is not as firm as the Panda, comfortable and sporty. Handling is less frantic than the Panda.
I hope the car will be ok for me as I am 6'1'' and am getting a lounge but none of the reviews I have read have said anything about lack of space in front, so I will take my chances .

The 500 will be so different that what I currently drive so I am not going to think about the differences too much . The fuel economy will be improved from my current 28 average mpg to about 65ish but my BHP will be going down from 240 to 75 .

Thats the price you pay I guess, I want a car that looks amazing and has all the gizmos but is cheap to run, cant get any better than the 500 thats for sure.

Re: Clarity on 500 build dates - does anyone know for sure??

hey guys,
as a dealer it is very hard being the man in the middle.
the 500 is out selling the factory production, that is something that we cannot do anything about.
I do worry about dealers who make promises for delivery, If they are doing that then they are silly. I always give a rough idea but it is a month that it will be delivered, not a specific date.
All dealers will have a build date shown, usually a week number, from this they can roughly guess when it will get to them.
I am in NZ and we can guess roughly so why a UK dealer couldnt i dont know.
I know all NZ cars were built last week and so we shall get them in roughly 7-8 weeks after that.

Re: Clarity on 500 build dates - does anyone know for sure??

It certainly looks amazing, so no problem there at all!

If the dealer hadn't been in the back it might be parked outside my house right now!

You'll probably be okay at 6' 1" - with the driver's seat all the way down and the steering wheel up, you should be fine. My hubby used to be 6' 1", then they took out 3 vertebra, replaced them with titanium, making him an inch taller and giving me a great excuse to order the sport for the lower seats!

TBH, if my dealer had been honest with me that I would get the car in March, not 21st Jan as promised, I would have bought something else.

I really hacked off with my dealer for not keeping me up to date with developments, 1 out of 10 for customer service so far Simonstone.

Of no interest to anyone, but a factual correction to my earlier post - hubby had discs removed, not vertebra of course. Shouldn't post when very tired.

PS - I've got N500 FAN as my plate!

I'm 6'1" with back and leg troubles but found headroom OK when sitting in a 500 Lounge, though I haven't managed to have a test drive yet.

I hope you tried it on a variety of roads and not just the smooth-as-silk ones chosen by the dealer.
I assumed the Sport with its firmer seats and bigger wheels would be the most UNcomfortable.

Having the 1.3 Lounge with 16's on wont be too much of a prob, my Leon FR rides hard on 18's and my old Fiesta RS1800 was a back breaker so I am sure my 500 will ride on a cushion of air .

Dont think I will be getting any personal plates for my 500 but I cant wait to get my hands on it and have some fun, am not patient at all

Yeah, tried it all over - dealer didn't care where we went; town roads with speed humps, slighly rougher country roads - all fine. I'm used to driving hubby's Renault Clio Trophy though, so everything seems comfortable in comparision!

Re: Clarity on 500 build dates - does anyone know for sure??

A friend that works for FIAT in Turin told me that they took one year's production of orders before the 4th July! Dont hold your breath guys, this is Italy and you cant get them on order. We had to cancel our order (for tax reason we had to buy before the end of the year) and bought a new one from a local Lancia dealer that seems to get plenty of them. We ordered in August and cancelled in December.
BUT it's worth waiting for. We had a new Cooper cabrio last year, did 8000km in and got bored and the wife hated it. We love our little 1.3mj Lounge. Done 1,700km and it's brilliant. Hang in there!!! If you want a LHD we can point you in the right direction here.

Re: Clarity on 500 build dates - does anyone know for sure??

LHD ones we can get no probs richit.
RHD ones are coming slowly, very slowly.

Should soon see greedy speculator somewhere advertsing one 4 well above list + late Jan delivery (I hope they catch somethin nasty) but no sign of any ad like that yet.

scrogg (W.garages Gloucester Fiat dealer sales manager will take our orders but all dealers get them the same time - so March b4 a lot of customers get them.

Just over 3 weeks to UK launch yet richit.

I won't, as we've sold all of our January, February and March allocation already, but thanks for having yet another dig at me without knowing anything about me!

According to the Fiat ordering system, the first customer 500s will be built in Week 3 2008 (week-commencing 14th January) so dealers should start to see them arrive 2-3 weeks after that (I won't actually believe it until I see them, but that's just me being cynical)

I can't see many people actually wanting to take delivery in February when there is a new plate only a few weeks away, but maybe some will?

I was 'this' close to buying Clio Trophy a year back or so, not a bad car.

Got my invite for the 500 Launch, cant wait. Apparentlty there is some big launch in London with some famous person singing etc etc (BORING) !!
