Check out whatcar's latest reveiw for the new Fiat 500 here.

They give it 3 out of 5  What the hell?!?! That's the same rating as the ageing Ford KA! How can they justify this:confused: The new 500 should be at least 4 stars+ I cant understand how they think these cars are on the same level when the KA is eleven years old and the 500 is based on a Panda...well I guess Fiat just havent paid them enough money, which is usually the case.

Just because the ka is old, doesnt mean that its a bad car. Why not ask why the 500 only got 3*?

The KA doesnt come close to the modern design of the all-new 500 :rolleyes:That rating is a joke when you compare to such rivals.

the 500 is a very nice new car and carrys with it more HYPE than any small car since the mini.why do you all think its something super special:confused:especially when only the selected few have driven it in this country.its a rebodied panda basicly.how can you tell its a great car when none of you have driven it?

Well it's just like you said "a rebodied Panda" and we all know the Panda's a great car to drive(y) so effectively the 500 looks great and should drive like a Panda. Anyway, I dont really think people are going to buy this car for how it drives, but for it's retro design.

the KA is a cracking car to drive, it handles well and is more connected to the driver than the Panda, and I therefore suspect the 500 will feel the same. OK, so the KA rusts and is pretty naff quality wise but more modern does not equal better! Many people consider the KA to be a modern Mini in spirit, now theres a compliment.

Its all subjective mate - take it with a pinch of salt.

Agreed, I wouldn't dwell on anything WhatCar? write; they always seem obsessed with plastic finishes, switchgear and depreciation. They must know their target audience, but I think most people on forums like this probably take a broader view. We know buying a car is not like buying a washing machine; the most important thing is to get behind the wheel and make your own decision. Leave the WhatCar? readers to their VW Polos...

the panda 100hp would run rings round any ford ka.fiat are only ripping you off if you buy one:confused:wait 6 months then it will be discounted

I had the (mis)fortune on working on KA's for 6 years.....mince! Do handle ok though & good laugh around town but on a 400mile journey it turns into a nightmare.

As for the mini...personally 'my opinion' they were mince aswell, handled good but thats about it.Was one of those cars you walked towards thinking 'please start!) then you come to first junction then you'd think 'please indicators work' then down to MOT station thinking 'please dont look to closely at the rust':( (I might be biased here cause I banged my head on that bonnet time & time again every time I was under one....which was alot!)

All down to personal preferences & what you want from a car I suppose.....oh & what you want the car to say about you if you care about image etc

have to disagree about the Mini, maintain them and they are very reliable, if they do play up its a simple fix, electrics are fine too and no worse thn any car really. Rust, well yep thats a big issue! Thing is, they are fun, I very much doubt a 1.2 500 will be, the novelty will wear off for many after a few months and theyll be cheap as chips.

Possibly there will be a welcome benefit to this indifferent review: it might just discourage the people who buy cars for estate agents (you know, the ones plastered with gaudy sign-writing) from replacing their Minis with 500s. ;)
