The listing is still there and the auction has ended. It got to 12,350 but the reserve was not met.

I'd love to know what the reserve was because someone is being very greedy.

Who in their right mind would spend anywhere close to 12k on a 1.2 litre hatchback in left-hand-drive???

Re: Look what I found...

I think the seller was hoping to make a tidy profit on this car but I think they've overestimated the popularity of the 500 in Britain and certainly our desire to have a left hand driver.

Speccing that car up on fiat.fr gives a price of:
Lounge 1.2 - 12700 Euros
Calypso Orange - 420 Euros
15'' Sport wheels - 250 Euros
Premium Hi-Fi - 400 Euros
Total - 13770 Euros

Converted directly equals 9,783.85.

Adding to that any road tax, shipping costs, ebay costs and UK registration has got to at least be another 1000? I don't suppose they'll pay the VAT?

Then they'll want to make a profit. I reckon they're looking for at least 12500. For a LHD with 500 miles on the clock.

Waiting a few months for a Brand new UK RHD car would cost:
Lounge 1.2 - 9300
Calypso Orange - 250 (approx)
15'' Sport wheels - 150 (approx)
Premium Hi-Fi - 300 (approx)
Total - 10000

You'd be crazy to pay more than 9k for the ebay one in my opinion.

Re: Look what I found...

Maybe we all overestimated its popularity.

Bets looking little fiat, but just a little fiat and will be discounts galore in a year or so.

Local dealer who claimed to have taken orders for dozens of 500s now says all will be on display as customers collect 21 jan. Total approx 12 including their demos. What happened to the other dozen or so orders mate. Whos been telling ms Cinq porkies

Not many of the lefties have gone from ebay or autotrader and prices will plummet in a couple of months when RH ones come. bring it on

Re: Look what I found...

The thing is this... when the Beetle was launched it cost loads, people payed a premium for early LHD ones, however they soon found it was just a boring middle of the road car, a Golf in a frock.
With Mini, the same happened and it did turn out to be a reasonable car, and still holds its value well, even if the early ones do fall to pieces and unlike Fiats the engines dont like hard use!
However, both of these models are made by German companies and rightly or wrongly people aspire to own what they see as a premium brand... (idiots imo).
People dont aspire to Fiat in the UK, only Fiat enthusiasts and car buyers that dont know about Fiats shoddy dealers and customer care will buy a 500... but loads of people will avoid it like the plague because they know they will be let down, not by the car but by the dealers. There was one guy at the NEC really enthusing about it, the girl asked if he wanted a brochure and he said "oh no, I wouldnt buy one"... I had to laff and thought good, that will get the prices down!

Re: Look what I found...

Anyone know how long was it after the UK launch of the Panda and PUnto that dealers started with the big discounts - 6 months -a year - 2 year?
Basic pre reg PUnto 1.2 from Stoneacre Fiat delivery miles only 6k instead of over 8k list price. Not got the looks of the 500 but not expensive IMO.

Nice if they can Take 25% off 500 prices in a year or whenever.Bring on the cars, bring on the discounts.

By brother and his mates call the 500
-A panda in a frock-
They wont be getting a lift home at the end of a wet night then.

Thumbs up Found another one!

I've just been to my local Fiat dealer (Slough). They've borrowed a white Sport for the weekend.

Had a sit in it and I must say it felt much chunkier and better built than the Lounge I sat in at MPH07. I don't really know why though.

I found the Sport seats more comfortable than the Lounge seats and I prefer the black plastics to the white.

I was mildly put off by the 500 when I first sat in the one at MPH, but this one impressed me and I really want one again now.

The guy at the dealership was enthusiastic about the car, but didn't have much information except for the date of the launch party. He did say they've taken 50 deposits though!

Re: Look what I found...

Jassy jase: Both the LHD vehicles you spotted at Ascot (the original subject of this thread )are now for sale on exchangeandmart.co.uk 11995 each.
---------
The seats on the Lounge and Sports that I have seen are definately different to each other. The Lounge seats are more similar to the (cheapo) Ford ones I am used to, but the Sport seats are probably better quality and more supportive and less squishy.

50 orders for the 500 from one dealership sounds quite a lot doesn't it?

If customers are picking them up on 21 Jan,
it would be nice to get a photograph of the vehicles all lined up.

At launch the Panda had a 0% finance offer and within 3 months dealers were selling Actives here for 4994... big discounts on other specs followed soon after. The last Fiat I recall being in big demand was the Cinq Sporting in 1994, long waiting lists ensured used ones were selling 500 above list for a few months.

Re: Look what I found...

nuovapanda in 'prices' thread a few minurtes ago said

Quote Quote:
Fiat are always going to discount, the 500 wont be such a wanted car after the initial people who have to have the latest fashion accessory buy theirs. At the end of the day its just a Panda in a pretty bodyshell, and once everyone realises this and the press get bored with the looks it will be discounted... no ones going to carry on paying a premium for them like now. Look how hard it is to sell the LHD ones, with the new Beetle they sold like hot cakes. Fiat dont have the name or reputation to sustain the interest, and once the new comers to Fiat realise how poor the dealers are they wont buy another

Its all hype and bull at the moment, its not a special car at all, its not a 500 and its not even got a decent engine line up at the start. Its just another good small Fiat that will appeal to Fiat enthusiasts and the fashion victims alone. Ive said it before, its an 8000 car, nothing more.

Re: Look what I found...

What I meant was that the Cinq Sport had no discounts for a few months, then after all the hype they had whopping discounts, exactly the same will happen with the 500
