The reason I found this community (and I'm glad I did) is because my trunk on my 500c wouldn't open. Latch wouldn't get the top to roll up either. I searched high and low. Most places were saying it was the wiring harness (which is a gong show in itself). Before I tackled that I looked some more. Cargurus had a fix to hold the close button 3-5 seconds, open the top, hold the open button 3-5 seconds, close the top and then let it cycle open and closed by itself. Tried it. Voila! I was excited. I think if I'd take it in, they would've charged me $300 to do the same thing. Saved me from taking the wiring apart to look for a short as well. Weird fix, but it worked. :slayer:

Hi Lucy,

There certainly are some common issues with tailgate wiring failures and trunk/boot latches or electrics.

Someone may throw light on your fix if it is something inadvertantly discovered or a known factory/dealer reset when it appears the electronics get all mixed up.

I know we had this sort of issue with our VW beetle soft top and when the windows and auto window drop on roof opening all went out of synch and stopped working correctly the fix was to cycle ALL windows fully down together with the roof opening and then back up and everything fixed itself.

Nice though to not have to pay out monies though and have to get fixed at a dealers.

Farrah

It does seem weird but there's reason behind it. The roof controller lives near the roof motor under the back shelf There are no sensors to tell it just where the roof is at any given time and it relies on the roof initialization sequence to establish the limits of travel. If you disconnect the battery or the roof jams for some reason it doesn't 'know' just where the roof is and so won't allow you to open the boot.

Here's the sequence from the manual;

Thanks all. I'm learning there are easy quirky fixes to this car that are kind of fun (like the oil change reset and the gas pedal).
