I have noticed that my immaculate 2012 Gucci Fiat 500 has one cosmetic issue that is driving me crazy! The passenger side dash is not made of the same durable plastic material that its other sister Fiat 500s are made out of. It is a soft, cushiony type of plastic that over time builds up a residue or film on the surface. I have tried everything that I can think of to clean it. The cleaners or leather protectants either do nothing or clean it some - and leave scratch marks where the cloth or rag was used. This is defeating the purpose. So before I go out and buy a new replacement (like I did for the crappy glove box) dash - do any other Fiat 500 or Gucci owners have any experience cleaning the soft dash? As a new member - I would appreciate any sane suggestions! :bang:

My 500 gucci is white so my interior is opposite to yours my dash is matte black but it’s not soft it’s just like the others I have seen and touched .. not sure what is going on with yours!? Possible it’s had some damage in the past ?

If it were me I would just buy another one eBay maybe??

No - no damage. I'm the only driver and drove it off the showroom floor. The Gucci version in both white with black dash and black with white dash used a softer matte " velvety varnish finish" than on the regular Fiat 500 models. Evidently this a case of "be careful what you wish for" regarding exclusive materials that later on prove to be hard to maintain.
Prior to the Gucci - I had a Nero Pop and then a rosso Sport. Both had hardshell plastic on the radio/dashboard.

More than likely - I'll have the dealership order a replacement. Thank you for the suggestion.

Now you mention it your right mine is softer!! I know I have to be careful as it does scratch very easy but I thought that was due to it being matte rather than gloss!!
Could you not just go and get it re sprayed? Then maybe it would be harder wearing for the future? I do like my matte black but I have been toying with the idea of swapping it out for a glossy white

The dealer option will be expensive but I understand if you want to maintain the original state & look!

Thank you for your reply. I thought that maybe the US version might have been different then the UK version of the Gucci - but they are virtually the same.

I would caution against the white - mainly because there is a portion of the white dash right by the ignition (thank goodness that Fiat didn't move to a "push button" start) that is the first place that starts getting the wear & tear of the plastic/vinyl. I wish everything was black on the interior - much easier to keep up.

I did see on eBay where they had a plastic "wood burl" that might look nice with both interiors.

Thank you. I will try that as I have tried everything else within reason. Baby wipes, STP/Son of a Gun leather cleaner wipes, leather protectant wipes...the list goes on. And of course - because Fiat service is now merged in the US with Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep....the service manager of Fiat has no idea of what to do.

I have replaced a few bits including the steering column as it looked sunburnt thank goodness these pieces were just standard! I have also started to change my satin silver trims door handles ect to polished like on the black Gucci as it looks better!!

I agree - the "satin" look was just a bit off - but still beautiful. The chrome shows ALL the scratches unfortunately. And - whilst I was just working on the white dash yesterday - I noticed ANOTHER issue that I had not really detected earlier. Be careful if you have a new glovebox door placed on the car (I noticed that earlier 500s in Europe and UK just had a shelf - they added the door to US version - but it is very problematic.

The new glovebox door is black - but the Gucci did the limited edition "jet black" on the interior. In the sunlight - the glove box door looks almost grayish compared to the rest of the interior. I wonder if they sell replacement parts in the jet black to match?

It’s worth finding out but I’m guessing getting an exact match may be a hassle and expensive!
I’m wondering if the plastic can be sprayed to even out the match
Though I only have the shelf version so I wouldn’t know about getting the lid/door off

I have some deep scratches in my kick panel passenger side ... I cannot find a replacement in the black it came in just grey!!
I emailed fiat but not heard back as yet......

I sympathise with your problems... special editions seem to just be a pain in the 'arris. :D

My old dad bought a Fiat 132 1800 ES years ago, which was basically a run-out 1800 GLS with some UK-importer fitted upgrades to help shift the last stocks... but which in actual fact looked pretty Sauceh. But when the special/unique parts got worn out or damaged, nobody had any idea what they were or how to get hold of new ones. This was the days of fiche (ask your dad) and no internet.

In the end, the pieces got swapped out for the only available parts that would fit.. so my dad's ES started to look more and more like a GLS. Even the ES badge faded and became illegible.. Then one day my brother did him a favour and stuffed it into a wall, as you do.. and the repairer's could only find body panels from the later "2000" so the beast morphed into a 2000 at the front (sans bumper) and a 1800 at the back. Quite groovy in a way (bonnet vents etc. were bigger) but it lost some of its 1800-ish elegance.

So, I tend to avoid special editions... although having said that, I did spend my own money on on.... Ahhhh so I guess if you likes it, it's worth the pain... :D

I can't blame your Dad. Sometimes you just want something a little special especially if you drive it everyday. I'm 59 so I remember "Sans Internet" and "Micro Fiche" - those days are underrated.

Not to go all "old fart" and all - but people actually looked at each other as they spoke - instead of swiping right as they talk to cashiers, waitresses and bartenders...

Fiat is definitely a different kind of automaker - as I am NOW finding out. Previously only had Mercedes - but fell in love with Fiat 500. Had a regular Pop, then Sport - finally Gucci Lounge. I've had not only cosmetic issues 1) messed up "velvet touch" dashboard which is otherwise hardshell and 2) off shade replacement parts in the interior that do not match the original. And this was thru the original Fiat Studio.

Mechanically, I've been thru the wringer as well. Two replacement gas tanks, driver door that magically would not close and stay closed, gear shifter that would not go into gear from "park" to "drive" whilst pumping gas. I had to have a flat bed truck actually load the car to deliver to the dealership. (Having not lost my sense of humor-the gas station manager comes out and says "So much for Dolce Vita!")

After all this - I still would not trade my Fiat for another car! My other half has a higher end Italian car - but people do not stop in traffic to ask if they can take that car's picture like mine.

Perfect strangers will start a conversation out of the blue about how cute it is, how do I like it, how they love the Gucci accents, etc. It is very reliable (now) - great on gas - and doesn't require a bank loan for a schedule service tune up!!

They truly are unique cars - mechanically and emotionally! :)

I feel the pain!! I’ve had issue after issue ... tailgate wiring ... door handles ... windows not closing luckily I’ve managed to sort myself... though saying that ... I only bought my Gucci Oct 2nd last year and I’ve had to have a replacement engine!!!!

Imagine that!! And all because I love my 500 gucci!!
I wouldn’t part with her for the world!! I would have gone for black like you as the sellers actually had both

But mine had the panoramic sunroof! And I love it ?[emoji108]
And with less and less left every year!
Scarce is the word!!!
I’ve seen three in the last three months that have been scrapped
Must have as all the bits have been on eBay!!

yes - thank you. I completely forgot. Another "mishap" similar to yours that any other "sane" car owner would say "hmmmm.." In a tropical torrential down pour - while I was cracking the driver window to reduce interior fogging - it decided to completely stop working. And I've gone through 3 completely different sets of stripes from the auto detailer because the red & / or green (mind you - it was coming from Fiat) colors were off in hue.

I did have a chance to check with the Fiat Studio today. There was another gentleman who had both the black AND white Gucci 500. He was having BOTH cars' soft dashboards replaced with a non Gucci hard shell. The dashboard replacement part is still being manufactured and available. The price is kind of steep - installed it is $403 US.

You may find these pictures interesting. There was a hard copy brochure for Fiat 500 by Gucci when it first launched. I still have the original - it is a hoot. Nothing like seeing 7 foot tall models crammed into a Fiat!!
Driving the Gucci around Italy (it was only made for US & UK markets) looking bored.
