Hi Folks,

Anyone had any experience of doing kingpins on a 500\126??

I know they need reamed after the bush renewal, where can I buy/rent a suitable reamer.

Anyone know of an old\long established Fiat dealership that may still have the correct tools, (Scotland)

Cheers

Ok, where you need is where the black cabs get theirs done, as they also use kingpins. Do yoyu have FX4's in Glasgow? Also, an old established garage should be able to do the job no problem. On an MOT, you are only allowed very little movement. And they need greasing on a regular basis.

Hi, if you haven't done your kingpins yet and are trying to buy/rent a reamer......DONT.
They are expensive to buy and VERY easy to break.
Unless you have experience of reaming bushes leave it to the professionals. It will be much cheaper in the long run.
This may sound harsh but if you get a reamer stuck and try to turn it back it can easily break off and they aint cheap.
If you can find a fiat dealer with the reamer these days then i think you will be very lucky (and someone who works there who still knows how to use one).
You really have two sensible choices, either buy an overhall kit and pay a local engineering firm to install the bushes and ream them for you, or buy a set of overhauled kingpins (easy to get hold of).
Hope this is of some help.

Theres a guy who does fiat just south of airdrie on the A73 - or at least he was there last time I drove by - about a year ago. Someone here must know them.
An alternative would be have them done by Middle Barton (nr Oxford) - a 500 specialist -but you will have to send the bits to them.
We once had a 500 where somone had turned down the pins to fit oversize bushes. Not a recommended practice! Had to replace the lot.

Edit : just realised this is a very old thread.

This may be an old thread, but wil be relevant to ALL classic 500 owners sooner or later.

Ours has got a very small amount of play in one side, but passed the MOT last time.

I think a lot depends on the examiner, and whether he goes by 'the book' or uses common sense.

Agreed though that the reaming stage of the new bushes is crucial, and the only real solution is to find a freindly local engineer who can do it for you.

Although a recent joiner to this forum we are long time bambino owners, owning three 500's and six 126's as second cars within the family over many years...and out of a need to keep them running economically I purchased a set of tooling from Fiat back in the 80's to remove, install and ream the kingpin bushes. As an engineer it comes as no hard task to undertake this job....(y)

PLease drop me a message if interested...:rumour:
