Can someone tell me if I hold the air flap open (bypassing the thermostat) should i be able to feel a flow of hot air blowing when the engine is running at around 1500rpm? theoretically I should but there is hardly any. Today I am going to remove & check the thermostat I assume its straight forward to take out, any advice would be welcome.
Hi Barry, I note your problem(s) and council this - ok you have a hot car with a hot engine no biggie, you have an electric pump that could possibly be flooding the carb - if this were so there would be other indicators (high smell) I have an electric pump operating at low pressure it does not give any problems. As Peter has said check your plugs for over heating (colour) if they are go up one stage to a cooler plug (they dissipate heat better) I did this and my car runs well. The excess fuel can only come from one source - when you switch off the pump dies, but any residual pressure can and will leak past the butterfly if the carb is not set up properly. Get the pressure of the pump checked and the carb set up by someone who knows.
