Fellas,
Now that I've got Martina back together and running like a top, I'm looking to upgrade the exhaust. Just due to the cost, I put it off until after the engine was all sorted. I think I definitely want a stainless-steel system and I'm leaning toward one of the 'direct-to-head' attachment systems, but not committed to that.

Does anyone out there have videos of the various quality systems? I'd like to get a good idea of what she'll sound like before 'pulling the trigger' on a somewhat high-risk cost + shipping venture.

Anything you've got would be appreciated! For context, it's a 595 w/ a 35/75 cam.

Have you thought about getting a local exhaust specialist to make you one? I 'lent' my spare engine (empty crankcase with head in place) to our local "stainless-steel" exhaust specialists, and they made me a custom system, which came out at not a lot more expensive than a 'shop-bought' item, especially when carriage was taken into account. Initially I went in my Fiat to the specialist and let them have a look and take measurements so that they knew how much space they had to play with, and how it fitted. They weren't able to exactly match the Fiat silencer shape so I will have to use one of the brackets that hold the silencer in place with springs. although I have used the system on my current (652cc) engine, it was bought specifically for my 'being built' 695 engine---but it sounded good!

I've toyed with that idea, but haven't really looked around for a competent shop. There are a few aftermarket muffler options (like Magnaflow) that make a 4" round 2" in, 2" out muffler that might actually work in the factory mount, but I haven't really done the leg work necessary to make sure.

Ideally you want a system with equal length pipework from each exhaust manifold.
Most have one significantly shorter than the other.
Also consider ceramic coating for heat reduction.

Hi, I can recommend a Stainless four part system that is held together by springs - CSC marmitte. It comes with a bolt-in plug to make things quieter. I obtained it from Axel gerstl my head manifolds have been enlarged and ported to the head exhaust ports. The fitting is direct to the head with a two into one arrangement. sizes are 30mm to 50mm to 60mm exit as I remember. I will say that it is not quiet, but has helped me to obtain good results on my first engine tune giving 36.2BHP @ 5000rpm with a 35/75 cam.
Ian.

I have a twin pipe Ansa unit. It's pretty much the starndard Abrath twin pipe unit as per the pic.

I like. I don't think it will be as efficient as the direct header fitting units that are available. But my engine is not highly tuned and I just wanted some more noise and small gain on a freer flowing exhaust.

Check out D'angelo's for some exotic pipe work

Insta video of the Peroni shoot. Around 12 seconds in, you'll hear the difference between 2 cars with standard exhaust and mine.

When I was looking, it was hard to find video / sound clips and a lot is taken as a leap of faith

Cheers

Mine is fitted with a Galassetti stainless tubes / carbon fibre silencer exhaust with Zicotec ceramic coating
Check it out on YouTube
It has a noise reduction adapter and sounds wonderful

That in my chosen type of sport exhaust, very traditional, nice sound without the raucous sounds and far from being the most expensive.

So single or double pipe?

And the bug question that I can't discern, is . . .is there any difference in the sound produced?

I don't think so, but hard to tell from you tube or phone video. I guess if you have 2 cars side by side then there is a difference . .

I'm leaning toward a single tip, to keep a simple, classic look I guess. The 'Record Monza' seem to be the most popular though. I'd prefer something in stainless-steel. D'Angelo Motor has this Monza in SST that looks nice, or this 2-into-1 that I like, but both are ~$450 shipped. Originally, I wanted the direct-to-head fit, but after looking at my motor, I kinda like the contrasting cast-iron color of my stock manifolds (pic attached). The stock manifolds are basically gasket-matched already, so a direct-to-head pipe might not provide any real benefit (also, we're splitting hairs here with a non-racing motor). MrFiat has this one that might tick all those boxes, but seem to be fully-SST. It has the added aspect of not modifying/ditching the heat shield (I think).

I suppose I'm just 'crowd-sourcing' my exhaust decision (anyone want to crowd-fund? :D). Decisions, decisions...

Appreciate the input though.

I've helped with the decision but for the cost, you're on your own! :D

I think end of the day, you know you want SST. Personal perf now on the look? Sound wise, from the web they all sound a lot more than the standard exhaust and most sound the same to me.

Direct mount to the head, again it's a performance aspect. The exit from the head is only sooo big, so comes down to getting the hot gases out the tubes in the most efficient manner. Equal length pipes and the like. But I'm no expert. I'm sure others on here will be able to inform more than I can.

I went for my zorst for these reasons. I like the look of the bigger twin pipe, not the smaller record monza style. I wanted more sound. I like the Ansa style although I'm sure it's the same zorst made in Luigi's workshop along with all the other twin pipe examples, just a name, some red tape and painted red inside the rear pipes.

Hi,

Another vote her for the CSC Marmitte stainless direct to head exhaust. Great exhaust and lovely deep note. Added bonus of the removal baffle if you want to pop it back in for longer journies.

A quick youtube video of mine running on the rolling road, only lower revs as we were just getting the base settings sorted. As previous said its difficult to tell from a video what the real sounds is but its a deep note with lovely bark when you blip the throttle, and each engine will sound different depending on there spec, this is on a 803cc.

The supplied finish of the CSC is matte stainless steel, so i decided to sand then polish to really finish the exhaust off,

Hi everyone I have been following this thread with great interest , I too want to change my silencer hoping to eliminate the backfire when switching off, i assume it is the fact the build up of fuel in the box. I noticed one silencer where the manifolds go under the box obviously making the manifolds considerably longer, “looks great”
The only thing I am trying to do is to try and get a quieter sound rather than louder. It’s a shame when buying exhaust systems they don’t supply a sound track with them before buying. So far the posts have been great we need more sound tracks though!
