General seized front brake

General seized front brake

Hi sorry started my thread but didn’t finish it ! Took the car out today to try & see if I cured the backfire, which seems a lot better.
After a couple of miles I noticed the car was pulling slightly to the near side, when I returned home the near side wheel was hot the offside cold, so I can only assume the brake pads sticking ON the disc, I haven’t driven the car for a couple of months so I am hoping its just a matter of removing the wheel & spraying some brake cleaner round the cylinder & pads. The car is fitted with discs all round (waste of time on the rear).
Any suggestions on how to free them would be appreciated, as we are moving house in 3 weeks & I need to drive the car 20 miles to the new place.

Hi CF500, You may just get away with some cleaner spray in the short term, But, the more permanent solution is to remove the caliper and clean around the piston(s) if the piston(s) are not retracting back into the caliper it will probably be a build up of brake dust that has hardened. Be careful not to damage the piston wall and seal if you are scraping away (n)(n) I had this very same problem with a Mercedes with the front brakes sticking badly :mad:
If you are going to use brake cleaner be careful to ventilate the area as it's nasty stuff.:eek:
Ian.
