Just received an e-mail from FD Ricambi (in Holland) pointing out that as of the 31st December anything that we buy from the Continent will probably take longer for delivery and might also be subject to customs checks, which will again, delay delivery. Brexit might also have a detrimental effect on the exchange rate.
I accept that it is a sales pitch from them, but it might be wise to take their advice (from whoever you normally buy from) to work out what you need and order before we leave the EU.

Welcome back to the post colonial world Tom.... all the way from NZ, where everything takes extra time to arrive, especially now.

Prices from the EU,.to include postage, have already risen noticeably. Let's hope we don't also get importation duties.
Is it an upside that this makes UK supplier prices appear to be relatively cheaper than they were? I got a recent order from Ricambio, who were not previously my first choice.... pricing was good and service and delivery time could not have been better.
Ultimately, this may be a sign that making the UK great again is going to cost us dearly.

Well if there are extra duties... you may find that some Euro suppliers may open a small office/store in the UK (I believe one car manufacturer was looking at this) as it will allow them to ship parts at cost and thus lower duty.....
Then offer prices lower than shipping from Europe or UK suppliers...
Depending on trade deals with other countries they may then use the UK as an Export hub to other countries...
The possibility being that you order via their normal site but items are shipped from a UK depot so delivery times may also be reduced...
A lot depends on the volume of sales in the UK

I just ordered some parts from 500 Mania in Italy, allot sump, special inlet manifold & crankcase strengthening plate so fairly heavy but the shipping was just €18. Was going to buy more but so much stuff was out of stock.

Next year for parts from Europe there should be no TVA (VAT) but then there will be Import Charge. So the total cost should end up about the same.
For the Exchange Rates wait and see.

....those were the days, long before we had to put up with those cheap and nasty, Italian car imports. ;) Never mind, free of the EU and it's shackles, we'll be free to travel by good old British horse and cart again. ;) :bang:

Back in 2017 (1/2 way through the original Article 50 period) BBC had an article with two companies from Derby. One made lace and had just bought a new loom from Italy. The £ had fallen so costs were up a bit, but they were making way more on their exports so it was a no-brainer to buy the new machine.
The other company director was avoiding spending anything due to the uncertainty and sound depressed. I never heard a follow-up but I bet the lace makers are still in business.

But who would be a German car maker right now? Treasure Island has dropped its currency so they are (even) more expensive. Tariffs will make them even worse, Boris has said all of their engines will be outlawed in 10 years time and they dont have anything significant in the EV market. AND Brits are now quite happy with Korean and Japanese cars.

Just got the order delivered so pretty good from Italy as I ordered on Friday ?
